Time to confess. Very sad

Rik,
So sorry to hear about this. You know I'll come help you with whatever you need whenever you need it!! Don't hesitate to ask!! Good news is I have a couple of pieces in my tank I got from you (orange passion to name one) that I'll have frags of for you to put back into your tank when your ready.

Rik, I'm very sorry your going through this. I have had those episodes and persevered through it. My tanks doing awesome. Sooooo... I'll start fragging and everything will be nicely healed and ready when you are. I'll set you up with a frag pack that might make a few reefers jealous hehe...

Wow. So sorry to hear about your tank! Here I am complaining when one or two pieces in my tank randomly die for no apparent reason.. I can't imagine what you're going through.
It's amazing to see how generous everyone here is to get you back going! Good luck with your next build!

Sorry to hear the sad news my friend. Lmk if there's anything u need.

Terry, really great to see you're around. You're one of the hobbyists out there I've always tried to model in not only husbandry but also your generosity with your corals and time. Hope we can meet up one day and thank you

WOW...what a nightmare! I think we all made mistakes, big and small, when it comes to this hobby but thats what makes us better reefers in the end. Good luck with everything!
thanks

Hey rik, really sorry to here about this. When you're ready let me know and I'll have some stuff ready for you.
Very nice of you Arash
Sorry to hear about this bud, I got some frags for you when you're ready.

Thanks Justin and I'd love your help in the tank rebuild if you can work it into your busy life

Brent, thank you and you're truly my friend. Say hi to Kat
OUCH!! Sorry to here this. This seems to be an enviable event for every reefer.
Best wishes
Thanks

I really appreciate all the generous offers everyone. I'll need to setup a much bigger tank. I'm hoping I'll have some of my own pieces ready to go back in and onward towards becoming colonies as I intended.

If anyone out there still has a piece from my red planet I'd like to buy a piece back. This was my first sps and has real sentimental value as it's my first really successful piece and was the showcase piece of my display

Oh wow. I'm so sorry to hear this horrible news Rik. You'll get over this hurdle and come back with a bigger and nicer tank I'm sure of it. Let me know if u need anything.

Sorry to hear this Rik. Thanks for sharing, as I'm sure everyone reading this went and tested water and checked dosing.

I don't have much to offer, but anything I do have, you're welcome to a piece of it.

Sorry to hear about this! I have never seen your tank in person, but Vu has mentioned to me a couple times how beautiful your tank looked. It is now only descriptive words and imaginations for me.

Aww man that's hurts to hear. Next time we see each other I'll give u some frags get u back going again. Sps or acans whatever u would like. Shoot me a text or call even if u wanna just vent :)

What?! I'm just catching up on this thread.

You know you have full access to my tank!

It was mature and nothing prettier than a mature reef

Darrell, I was going to call or text you today (not for freebies or to vent), just needed some encouragement from my Mr. Miyagi. Thank you for the offer. I'll take a CC Highligher :) just kidding but I will hit you up one day if and when the Red Shortcake grows out. The diabolic pacman was one of the frags that I took down still alive. I'm hoping it still is but it was one that looked healthy.

Oh man, thanks for doing that. Hard to look at. Hopefully my bbeb are doing ok, they're in another tank but the Orange rainbows, the mindblowing and other z and p's still in my tank seem to be doing ok except the Rastas where half are still closed but there's hundreds of those polyps. The yellow green tort colony was still alive when I took it out with no recession. Hopefully it's still ok and as of last Tuesday it looked fine.

:)

Thanks again for the kindness and compassion. Today is a week so my hope is that pieces still looking good have stabilized. I'm waiting to hear back from Dave but he's a busy guy so will keep everyone posted when I know

Rik, very sorry to hear. At the same time is really promising to see our reef community support.
I witnessed you been always here to support others and sure it will pay back.
Hope you overcome this soon.

Out of curiosity, did you notice any spike in your PH while your Alk was creeping up?

When you're rewarded for the risk, it's awesome and we all know how we feel when things are good. But when it crashes we immediately forget about how much success we experienced to get to this point.

Rik - been following your posts from my side of the internet for a while.

I always felt guys like you make this forum one of the greats with the knowledge, humor, and, on regular occasion, your charity. I'm glad to hear you're not getting out because this hobby is better off with you in it.

Like you I've got a confession as well. In November I hired a LFS to move my aquarium - they totally botched the job and killed a lot of my coral and fish. They showed up with the wrong sump and couldn't get the system restarted - then attempted to hand me a bill for 1.2k (notice the word: attempted). I even lost a 6+'' clam that a local reefer had been growing for many years and that I had for a year - it was very sad.

The point is: Like you, I was heart broken because I thought I was doing the right thing but got burnt. Just like mishandling dosing, we try to do good and this hobby is complicated and **** happens.

The coral is counting on us to pick ourselves up and start the system back up - lots of dying coral out there - even mother nature is having a hard time growing coral.

Good luck Rik and I've got a frag of pink boobies if you want.

Thanks for sharing Rik. Not too many reefers will share their lows in this hobby. It also goes to show how important maintain ALK is in an SPS system.
If you're ever down this way, let me know. I don't have a lot of high end pieces but have a lot of the old school goodies.
