Tips and Tricks on Creating Amazing Aquascapes

STICKY worthy. . .

STICKY worthy. . .

Hello all,

So what does it take to make a thread a STICKY? This one seems to merit the status, based on general usefulness. Just curious. . . .

Thanks,

Gordon

So, I was messing around with this a little bit this afternoon and this is what I came up with for what would be the left side of my tank...

I was kind of planning on doing three sections.

One kind of like the one you see here. Another on the right side similar to the one on the left but taller with more slabs, etc. and then one small short piece in the middle. Of course that's all subject to change. I'm trying to avoid the rock wall and want the tank to have depth.

Thoughts? Feedback? Constructive Criticism?

I need it all...

Thanks...

I love this scape. I think I would take a little off the top on the left structure just for growth space. But that's just personal preference.

I really like what you have.

Now, when you say this do you mean take the rock off the top of it or just make the whole scape a little shorter in general?

Yep. Really like the horseshoe structure.

Thanks, should I do another on the other side that somewhat replicates this and have them almost kind of point toward each other? And then a very small piece in the middle?

I'm trying to think of the rule of thirds and I'm still not exactly sure what that means?

I mean just the a little off the top. Maybe just the top rock and leave it a flat plateau possibly. And again, that's just what may look good to my eye.

Alright guys, just set this up yesturday and got the cycle rolling. Any suggestions? Thinking about rebuilding the left structure

No, I get that. I was thinking along the same lines as you. I'm basically an hour into this piece of the project and don't plan on getting this thing done until early next week. There's going to be a lot of reworking with rocks over the course of the rest of the week.

Try it without the top rock if you can. I'd like to see the the difference with/without.

I love the structure other than that.

The Mods determine what is sticky worthy.

Believe it or not, a lot of times with good threads like this it is better to leave it unstickied. Just one of those weird things, sticking a thread can kill it. Its like it becomes invisible to 3/4's of the people browsing.

Hello, I am struggling with my 29 gallon sumpless tank. I have a piece of LR that I got without giving much thought on placement and now it is just sorta there. I also have 3 hitchhiking NPS that I would like to preserve. I have 3 HOB filters turned refugium that are also providing 90% of the flow.

Any ideas how I can incorperate the leftmost piece into the scape and still maintain view of my hitchhikers?

I would lay the rock in the square on the sand along the left side keeping a sand aisle way between them.

what I need is just a bigger tank. my 55 is very easy to set rock in but with no depth it became too linear, there are though, 3 mounds, one is composed of just one rock, with the other 2 making a channel through the center of the tank so to add negative space. My fish love it, my corals grow great, and well the tank is still young, and sadly is going to have to move in about 6 months, but I will try to make sure the new set up will be the final set up for a while (unless I finally get that larger tank I want [120 gal])

I am thinking about adding more live rock to my 60 gallon cube tank. My neighbor has a few great looking pieces and i was thinking of redoing my rock work a bit. (I am getting rid of my clowns so i can get some other fish but i do have some cleaner shrimp) Any tips when re sculpting a tanks rock work without disturbing the tank to much. I have about 5 leathers and all the rock is very seasoned.
