Well this is where i am at. I think i am in a good spot considering its 1) a 60 gallon cube 2) i had to work around a bunch of coral and leather and make sure everything got lighting

What do you guys think?

Also on mine, but you can;t see from the pic is there is an opening whole that goes right down through the middle. I have 3 huge mushrooms in there and it lets light all the way down to the subtrate.

Here is my rock work I just have gotten in done last night, will be adding a piece or two, of live rock but thats it.

I've got a bunch of boulders, mostly 12" or larger. I broke pieces off a couple of them already, but they are still quite large. Should I just go ahead and bust them up? I'm having a hard time shaping these "boulders" into anything that flows.

Sorry, for the tank shot that is blurry. Everything was kind of leaning off to the left. Of course I'd straighten things up if I were to keep that setup.

For the last tank shot I tried to make a cave. Looks more like a pile.

P.S. I have another 40 lbs of boulders on order.

Ideas?

a good chisel and a hammer go a long way. finesse the blow and you can score a rock very nicely to give it the edge, character, shape you need or want. you may also consider drilling a bunch of 1\2 in holes for frag plugs to fit into nicely.....but be careful, the drill will cause micro fractures in the rock and cause it to become more likely to break, so easy does it. So if you think through where a rock would ideally be placed and shape it with the chisel, then think about how many frags or whatever you want in that spot, drill the appropriate amount of holes. And remember, less is more, and once you are happy with something, stop.

good luck, have fun

Markcountdown....cool video of the asian man's tank, but i see a rockalanche in the making without some sort of mastic to hold that much rock together...but still a nice looking scape

i have always used pond safe black foam to scape the rocks. This last tank had side walls and over hanging caves type stuff i created. here is a pic.

Refer 54, so you think I should go ahead and bust them up? Drilling holes does sound smart.

that is entirely up to you....i used mortar and fashioned smaller pieces to make my scape. I think i have a crappy pic on the first page or so of this thread from back when.but each of my islands have hollow centers for more swim area and hiding places. I always found clumps of rocks to take up so much volume. But that is just me.

and i wish i had drilled more holes in more thought out places.
