Tips and Tricks on Creating Amazing Aquascapes

I am running 1 Gyre and 1 Mp40. The 1 Gyre would be pleanty, no dead spots but I kept an MP40 in there on the other side of the tank to create some random backflow, I run the MP on Reefcrest at about 40% and the Grye on pulse mode at about 60%.

I'm getting ready to redo the rock work in my 150. I have about 100-150lbs of dry rock to work with. I'm doing a FOWLR tank for now but still want an open feel to it. I've been wanting an open look for a couple years now and every time I try to do it, I wind up doing a stupid rockwall and I wind up giving up lol. My tank is a dual corner overflow and I plan on going BB with black starboard. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!

Very nice. :p I know your coral will grow in but you may want to consider adding a rock or two to the right hand structure to create a change in vertical dimensions between the two structures.

Ok I revamped my structures and added some more rock. Check it out now.

I wanted to give the appearance that the reef had a path going behind it and could lead to something else. I got the idea from another picture of a reef in this thread. I added some height to the right structure to give a definitive difference in the structures. The tank it is going in now is actually a 210g now so it will be taller. Should still have plenty of swimming room.

Very nice! Your tank will be beautiful as your corals fill in. I love the valley you've created, as well as the depth from front to back. :celeb3:

Looking for some advice as I'm new to the hobby and getting ready to start a new tank for myself and my kids (36x24x24). Below is the rock layout I was planning on going with. Spent some time on this thread and am extremely impressed with what many of you have put together.

I do have a few more small Pukani pieces left over that I can use to perhaps increase the elevation a little bit but I'm going for a 'clean' look with negative space and am pretty happy with this. Any thoughts or recommendations?

Sparky it looks pretty cool. One thing I would change in my 'scape would be to have more hiding/sleeping places for medium sized fish

I really need some tips/ critiques on my 45 gallon bow front... Was going to buy a big rock that I can shape for the left side.. But after this thread I think I should maybe just start from scratch... What do u think?

I scaped my 120 for fowlr. got bored and started adding coral but didn't change anything. I could have done better to have more room for corals. my fish seem happy. lots of hiding spots and caves that go all the way through the rocks.

I think you are on the right track. You have nice proportions in relation to your two main structures. Avoid any kind of symmetry on your large structure and your corals will fill in the tank nicely. Nice work.:lol2:

So the rocks are finally in the tanks. One thing I did account for in my other pics were the overflows. kind of changed the layout but the overall is still the same.

There will be about a 2" crush coral bed that I will be putting in tomorrow.

Here is my redo... I think it flows better... It has the curved flow like the OP showed on page two in the bow front sketch...

The only problem is that I lost all my nice hiding spots for my fish... I have a couple nooks.. Is that enough or is it essential to have "caves" for the fish to rest in.
