To catch a fish.........

Gone Fishin'

Well, after about a week of having the fish in my tank, the male Tierra anthias has turned out to be a bully. He chases my other fish, almost all of them, away from 'his side' of the tank. This include the female anthias, blue/green chromis, leopard wrasse, and others. He killed one of the female tierras from bullying, and also a new Evansi anthias that I added to test out. I decided this joker was going to have to be removed. I did not feel like setting up a fish trap, trying to net him. etc, etc. So, I decided to go fishing.

My fishing tackle for this expedition, 4# test Stren line, and #12 bait hooks.

Baited hook with piece of mysis shrimp:

I dropped the hook down in the tank and he came up to it and circled around it for a few minutes, he was very curious and nipped at it a couple of times, but not actually taking any of the bait. Finally after a few more minutes, his appetite got the best of him and he took a bite. when I saw him grab it, I simply lifted him out of the water, dangling on the end of the line. He was barely hooked in the side of his mouth and I gently took it out and placed him in my small refugium for the time being.

Mission Accomplished!!

NICE! If I coulda found a hook small enough, this would have worked great when I needed to get a six line out of my tank. Well done!

Only thing you might have done differently would have been to nip the barb off. I never have because it would be too easy for them to get loose.

I had to do the same thing with my Monster Lunar Wrasse. Very handy trick because there was no other way of catching him without destroying the tank. I used a very small treble hook and my three year olds fishing pole. Ha! Poor DolphinMan (Preston) inherited him from me I am sure he terrorized his tank as well.

My son, Nick, used this method too. However, he threw the hook and line in the trash and his Jack Russell, Ripken, ate it. He got it stuck in his throat. After several hundred bucks, Ripken was good as new. Just be careful where you dispose of this device.

Jay, he's been a real "ladies man" at the store maybe he just didn't like the female you picked for him , or the neighbors!!! ;)

When you stop and think about it, that just Sounds barbaric is all!

Think it'll work on a Black Damsel? (The trap didn't)

I would just hate to hook my Regal Tang.
