its been 7 days and my toadstool leather coral frag hasnt shown any signs of opening as yet, should i be concerned?

Temp - 80
sal - 1.024
ph - 8.2
amm - 0
nitrite - 0
nitrate - 3

alk - 7.9
calc - 430
mag - 1600 (according to red sea kit, i think i may need a new kit)

Hey, i just had the same problem a few day's ago. All i did was raise my alkalinity and it started recovering within a day and by day 2 and 3 it was perfect. It took me many month's to work out what the problem was as i wasn't testing for alkalinity.

I used Elos carbonate's 03 to raise my alkalinity from 7.5 dkh to 8.9dkh over 2 day's. I have heard you can use baking soda but you would have to research it.

I'm so happy all i had to do was raise my alkalinity and that was it!

Goodluck

It might be in the process of shedding, although a week is a long time. If you can you might want to increase the amount of flow the coral is receiving. Sometimes this will snap them out of their stupor.

Does your toadstool struggle to expanded each day? For example, when the lights turn on does it take many hour's for it to open up.

Good link, Al.

Parameters seem to be spot on. I would have a couple guesses. One is that it's a lighting or flow issue. Soft corals get the reputation of being less demanding in terms of light and flow, but toadstools can take a lot of light and flow. What type of lightning do you have?

My other guess would be that it doesn't have a good stable base. Is it attached to anything?

I've had softies (devils hand to be specific) closed for 3+ weeks and come out bigger/better in the end..
