toadstool mushroom - is this normal?

I bought it from liveaquaria and recieved it friday. There was a small ammonia spike (.25ppm for about 3 hours) from a dead starfish saturday night. It still hasn't opened but now there's a little brown spot. Is it dieing?

staying closed is normal but that spot and flopping over isn't a good sign. Try brushing it off with a turkey baster and make sure it's getting strong light and good flow. If it starts dissolving it's best to yank it out.

How long is it supposed to stay closed?

Do you know your water readings?
Do you have any powerheads?

I just brushed the spot off, it's like it was dirt or something...

Water readings are all fine
ammonia - 0
nitrate -10 - not ideal, but I think it should be fine
ph - 7.8 and on the rise
sg - 1.026

Oh and yes, I have 2 seio m620s and II also have green star polyps which are doing good.

I have a leather that does that nightly. It even slumps over and stands up as soon as the lights come on. Leathers will also shed periodically and look like hell for a week or more but will eventually come back. They also do not like to be moved around.

GSP will actually do better with higher nitrates. Im not sure but you may have to much flow. You have a total of 4?

It is normal and adjusting, I got a 5" from LA same thing, and it closes up/no tentacles out, then they are out, they like moderate flow, Just remember, these things and I mean fish too are in an environment that is suitable for them, then thrown into a bag in the dark for a day, then a knew environment, I know you care, but I read so many Threads where the fish is in hiding, or like your leather, they just need quite time to adjust. Mine is in and out depending on the light cycle too.

I agree with rbursek, this coral is still adjusting. Give it a little time and make sure it has good flow but don't blast it, just enough to blow off any molting tissue. Do a water change and get that nitrate down and all should be fine. If you don't have a good skimmer I'd be sure to invest in one, these can throw out a lot waste when they molt.

Just to be clear, I have two seios, a total of 1240gph, which may be a little higher than normal, but I don't see any problems with it right now and the tank's been set up for just over six months.

A skimmer is second on the list of upgrades, right after the auto top off.

mine curls up like that as well at night, just give it some time, once it get use the aquarium it should open up nicely, give us some good pics when it does...
