Tomini Tang Help

Proteinshake

So Ive had my Tomini in quarantine for about two weeks now that I treat with copper. But over the last few days it seems like the skin around his mouth is getting fleshy & raw. What could it be?:headwally: hes in a 10g that ive used multiple times on other tangs but im wondering if the size could be stressing him out and maybe causing hlle or is it just some bacteria eating at him?
Please let me know what you think...
Im trying to get a picture but hes camera shy still.

HLLE/something bacterial/rubbing his mouth on something are all possibilities. I would just keep an eye on it for now, see if it gets worse. Obviously, pics would help. ;)

I can't offer much without a pic. How's his appetite? that's a 1st sign of copper sensitivity. What brand of copper and what's your copper test reading? IMO, a Tomini in a 10 gal wouldn't be showing signs of "stress'' or HLLE yet; especially around the mouth.

A quarantine means just observation, no treatment. Copper treatment is for ich and parasites, but has no effect on bacterial infections. You should not combine a treatment for a bacterial infection with copper.
I believe that this species is not a macroalgae eater: tends to cruise the rocks nibbling on film algae.
It is somewhat, though remotely, possible that this is a nutritional issue.

he was in qt for a fin problem that coppersafe has cleared up already, hes still eating like a pig so i assume that copper sensativity is not an issue. Im thinking about setting up a 40g I have laying around to give him some more swimming room because he is the most skittish fish ive had yet so maybe he could be just smashing his face every time he trys to get away, I hope it could be that simple I was really just seeing if it a common problem

I agree with Sk8r and wouldn't give copper the credit for the fish's recovery; I think it just healed on its own and the copper just happened to be there. It may be easier on both you and the fish to remove the copper than to move the fish. Copper is easily and quickly removed with activated carbon and similar products.

Well I already moved him,I thought it was the beginning signs of fin rot, so is fin rot a parasite or bacteria? because copper treatments are what ive done with others in the same situation and it seemed to be the only thing to clear it up.

Fin rot, unless caused by a wound; is usually bacterial and can become fungal. Less than pristine water is often the cause. Copper will do little, if anything for bacterial infections; evidenced by the fact that copper doesn't wipe out our bacteria that we farm for filtration. If fin rot problems are happening with any frequency, IMO, you have a water quality problem.

so i guess the little spots on his fins were flukes because now that ive taken him out of the copper they have rapidly grown over the past 48hours so I guess that would account for his scratching. so what should i use to treat flukes?
