Beautiful Setup Jonathan! Sent you a PM!
I chose to do internal only because I feel that it's easier for me to maintain and clean. Knowing how clumsy I am, I'd probably snap something and cause a leak if the pump was external. I can't afford leaks because I have hardwood floors.
I know a lot of people prefer external because there's less heat transfer and they tend to be more quiet. However, the pumps that we have available to us on the market nowadays are all pretty quiet and efficient. That's why I chose internal and have been happy with the setup so far.
Just curious, what exactly does this piece do on your return line?
It's a check valve. It's suppose to prevent back siphoning from my display tank into my sump during a power outtage.
Please make sure you check your check valve often! I've heard so many stories of when they fail to do their job, I wouldn't trust one. Hopefully its just a backup and your sump is large enough not to overflow if it fails.
Great build otherwise. Really nice work. I love the red PVC, really sharp.

How do you go about skinning a stand like this? Strong magnets countersunk into wood panels?
I'm not too seriously considering getting a tank fit for an achillies tang and really like the open work areas afforded by not having permanent sides..

Am about to make my tank the way I want it, urs is looking beautiful and inspired me to built mine, been thinking to do it bot my budget is limited.
My tank will be 1/2" glass, starphire front panel, center dual over flow,
tank size 60" x 24" x 26" about 160gal. stand and refugium is easy and low cost for me, the problem is the tank $$$$
Very nice build. Keep the pics coming. Mite have to steal your idea for painting the PVC red. Beautiful.. Question, where did you buy the 3 chamber dosing container from. Please let me know. Thanks
Alright. This thread has been dormant for a while. How about some more tank pictures to see more progress?
