top 2-3 hardy SPS?

I have a small 33g(mp10/150w MH) with just a bunch of LPS. Would like to get my feet wet with a couple of hardy 3-5" SPS pieces.

I'm guessing birdnest and...?

How are the green digitate Acropora?

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like you would have more than enough light for SPS... I think birdsnest would be fine, as would montiporas (do you mean digitate montipora instead of acropora)? You would probably be fine with some lower maintenance acros as well. The thing with the easier SPS pieces is that they can be fast growers - if they do well, they may quickly fill in your space!

Thanks for the feedback... I'm referring to this one..

Just realized that wasnt the one that they have plenty at my LFS. Theres a lot of the digitate montipora at my LFS.

Either case, how are the digitate acropora? I just dont want to unknowingly pick out an SPS that is near impossible for a novice or has a high death rate.

Also if things grows well, I'm very open to converting my 72g FOWLR into a reef tank. Or just get another midsize 75g tank.

monti stellata. the purple base w/ bright green polyps. i have seen it thrive in a tank with 80 nitrates while the setosa, birdsnest and digitata died.

Most montiporas are easy, especially digitata and caps. Birdsnests are pretty hardy. A few acros do great too, like green slimers, valida and most millies in my experience.

I have had birdsnests die in my tank while other acropora that are considered more difficult thrive. idk why but it just does sometimes. i have a ponape thats doing well finally

I have dropped my montipora setosa into a crevice twice. Second time I just was going to forget about it rather than breaking the tank down. It was all smushed in there, covered in sand and whatnot for over a week. I upgraded tanks and pulled it out and it was just about completely white with just a bit of pink. Now it's come back, again. Twice I have practicly buried it and twice it has come back (quickly) like it's brand new. So I would say Montipora Setosa is the hardiest SPS in my particular tank.

I like stylophora. From my experience, they are hardy, but they also don't grow very fast so it's not going to take over your tank quickly like the red monti cap.

OH!!! So you're the one who snatched it out from under me. LOL!
I had that sucker in my cart and then it was gone!

From my experiance, I'm 1 for 4 with birdsnest so they're not on the top of my list. My red and my green monti caps grow like mad as well as the setosa. I fragged the setosa maybe 3 weeks ago and they're already encrusting. Also seem to have good luck with stags, just don't like that they seem to grow straight up and don't seem to want to branch but that might just be me.

thanks guys.

i'm going to go with a birdness, pocci, and staghorn from DD. I'll see what new they have to offer today. Not seeing the setosa available.
