Torn Foot

I've been doing this for just over 5 years. I've never really had the desire to keep any nems, especially in a reef setting.
But
Today I won a small GBTA at my local clubs meeting and raffle. I wasn't present so a friend delivered the nem to me. When he got here he said the foot had been torn while the nem was being removed from a return that it was latched on to.

I was thinking that it was a small tear until I actually saw it. The tear is deep and extends from the center of the pedal up and it looks "deep".

Is this little guy a goner? Should I even finish the acclimation or euth it?

It's still firing stinging cells when the touched and attempting to get a hold on the side of the container it's in now.

Lighting is more than adequate. It's LED DIY from rapid. I grow SPS on the sand and burn it on the top of the rocks if I don't take my time acclimating them to the light. lol
I have 48p drivers but no money for the typhoon controller yet so they are always 100%.

I figured since it was trying to hold on to the tub I'd put it in and watch it closely. It's grabbed ahold of the rock and is holding on through the MP40 on reefcrest @ 50%. Pretty deflated atm but that's normal isn't it?

IDK.

I couldn't find my foam covers for my mp40 last night and couldn't sleep so I just shut it off. My thinking~Flow from the return is good enough for a few hours and and a nem doesn't get blended in my pump so I can stop worrying and get some sleep. LOL
In the dark the nem bubbled up and kind of elongated. I thought maybe it was trying to split at the tear.
this morning it on the sand and it looks pretty bad. It's foot down but is completely deflated and shriveled down to the size of a prune.
It's not losing color so I'll leave it for now I guess but how long should I continue to chance it?

Man they are resilient little guys. But I guess if you can chop them in half and get two I shouldn't have been worried to begin with. :wildone:

Usually a foot tear is not good, but on a BTA it can split from that tear.
I may have even finished that tear by cutting it in half, not something I normally advise doing but you are already there, and they seem to heal fairly quick after being cut.
Since you have to go from the tear it may not be the best area to cut, so maybe both halves won't survive, but they could, and even if only one half survives it may be better than none.
Either way keep your eye on it, you can usually tell if it's turning to mush/melting, and you'll want to pull it if it does.

LOL, guess I typed too slow, but it looks good from pic.

Some nights I go to bed expecting to wake up to a pair of nems in the tank because it'll bunch up where the tear is/was and look pinched. But it hasn't split yet and as far as I can tell has 100% foothold on the rock.
I fed it about 1/2 cube of frozen mysis the other day and it gobbled that up.

You may very well see a split at some point.
At this time it is still a touch bleached, small feedings like mysis are best to fully bring it back to health.
Looks good so far.
