i have a 300g reef system with a pair of picaso clowns (tank bred) and want to add a pair of tank bred tomato clowns. will they fight? or will they get along since they are tank bred. the picasos have been in my tank now for 10 months.

A tank that big and there might be a bit of sparring, but they should claim their territory in short order. Try moving the rocks around just before adding them.

I would not attempt it personally. Once they are mature, the Tomatoes would probably kill your more expensive Picassos. It's just not worth it to me.

I think your tank is big enough that they might be ok but there's no guarantee. I do agree that if they do fight, your picassos are dead.

Tomato clowns are one of the most aggressive of the clown species. Right up there with maroons. I wouldn't risk it.

I wouldn't risk it either, agree w/ JT, most likely you're going to lose a nice expensive pair of picasso's.
And agree, tomato's are at top of aggro list w/ maroons.
Possibly a more passive pair of clowns like skunks, but still risk involved.

I will totally take the Picasso pair off your hands if you prefer....:D

My Frenatus Pair has mutilated my hand, rearranges the frag rack daily and the female chased a yellow tail damsel until he died from the battle wounds.

Plain and simple, 99% of Tomato's I've kept and grown out from larvae are full of pi$$ & vinegar and are totally foul.....but that's why I love them. Full attitude in a 4" body that could scare the colors off a clown trigger!

Picasso + Frenatus = Expensive Experiment

^^ I agree. My tomato complex clowns are the meanest ive ever had. It makes me laugh when people think about keeping them with other fish in a smaller tank.

LOL, Tomato's are my favorite for this very reason!

One of my LFSs claimed tomato clowns are peaceful fish. :lolspin: Luckily I don't trust LFSs when it comes to such information. I did buy tomatoes though, and I just love them! But, yes, they are aggressive, and I know my tomatoes will get worse when they grow up. They are IMO one of the most beautiful clowns. But I wouldn't trust them with more peaceful fish, and certainly not with other clowns.
