Ok here we go,
I've moved plenty of tanks and DSB's around. I think its fine to move a sand bed. While moving it expect rotten egg smell and sulfurous smells. This is the Hydrogen Sulfide gas that's produced in the low to no oxygen environments in the sand bed.
After you transfer your sand bed, remember this was a livesand bed to begin with and you'll probably need to skim and monitor your conditions before adding your livestock back to the tank. All in all it should be a smooth transition.
Think about the livesand you get from the LFS, well our LFS keeps it in a tank that's about 30" deep! Full of it, so when you bring that sand home, wouldn't it release toxins? This here discredits anyone else's arguments or points. I know for a fact our LFS keeps their sand for a while...sometimes not selling any for 6-12 months at a time.
Just be sure to skim as there is going to be a little die off as its re-establishing itself. There also could be a 'mini-cycle' as the tank establishes itself again, so like I said above, test your Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrates over a period of a couple days before adding all of your livestock back to the tank and you'll be fine!
