Thank you.
Thanks. so gigs and mags treat no matter what when acquired. Haddoni, optional. I am currently treating my gigs of 4 weeks after it started deflating daily the few days. it is currently under a 10 gallon qt with amoxicillin, until i get cipro tmo. Is the lighting important in the qt? I only have a clip on 7000k led over my qt.
Again, is the lighting important?

hi sorry to hijack but what asbout BTA, would you treat prior to DT tank!
I have treated several Gig and Haddoni with a cheap 2 bulb T5.. those Petco ones.. I have also treated some BTA and Haddoni with just natural window lights. I don't think strong lighting is that critical during treatment period.
I treat my BTA because I have a huge BTA collection. I don't want to risk anything sick infecting my other BTA. I do this for Haddoni as well because I have almost all the colors. All my new anemones go into a QT, treated and observed. I guess I'm a little paranoid. But if you don't have any other BTA, I don't think treatment is needed. You can always treat if you see issue inside tank.
Hi m0nkie what should i be watching out for inregards to illness? I have noticed mine on a number occasions expell a browny stringy substance. once its expelled all of it, it will then deflate. This happens generally towards the end of lighting period which is 6.30am to 6.30pm. It will then sort it self out once the lights go out. Do you think it maybe getting to much exspoure to light?
I think BTA expelling is normal during first week or two. It could be:
1) getting used to your lights, may be stronger than previous tank or nature
2) getting used to your water. too much nitrate cause it to lose color through expelling..
3) sick..
BTA can take some lighting. If lighting is too strong, it will move to a darker spot. Water chemistry won't cause it to expel daily. so if you BTA continue to expel daily after a week or two. I would prepare to treat it.
It will get smaller as it expel. It will fade color. It will lose tentacle length (become a flat disk with no tentacles). flappy mouth not tightly closed.. can take a month or two to slowly die...
and some BTAs just don't survive. Specially mixing wild caught BTA with aqua cultured. Wild caught has higher chance of dying
Hi thanks for your reply its not a new addition as such its been in the tank around 4 months. And generally other than the expelling brown and deflating it looks normal, it probably does it once a week. My parameters stay pretty stable. Mag is between 1410 and 1380, Calc 410 and ALK 8.3. Nicely inflated during the day. it has been in the same spot since day one. When it does deflate it generally doesit at the end of the day.
Do you have a pic? Normally after that long you are in the clear.
