Treating with Vitamin C

This may have been posted earlier in the thread, but has anyone used Vitamin C on a Prodibio tank? Can it be done? I started dosing Vitamin C last week and I'm getting the Prodibio tomorrow. Just want to see if it has been done.

Has anyone tried ELOS Amino Acid in conjunction or as an alternative to Vit C? I'm just curious because I would assume Elos provides the same thing similary to Vit C.

Really? They are totally different products but both have great reviews. I use amino acid additives in my food when I prepare it. I am not sure if it helps or not.

This may have already been answered here but couldn't find it.

Can someone explain why it is necessary to have your skimmer running when dosing Calcium Ascorbate? I run my 40 Breeder skimmerless and want to doce VitC. Any suggestions?

I don't think it is a requirement, but it seems those that have dosed have seen an increase in skimmer output as a result of the dosing....soooooo who knows what it is that we are pulling out that you would not be.

I think you may have gotten the wrong idea. It isnt necessary to run a skimmer, its just that you dont have to turn it off if you do run a skimmer. In other words, do what you normally do just add the vitamin C near the return pump so it has a chance to get into the tank before any filtration.

I've got a 300g approx. vol of water in my system.
Planning on treating my prized 7" Sohal Surgeon Fish that has Hole in the Head or lateral line disease.

Can someone give me an appox. dosage amount?

I will be using the:
NutriBiotic, Sodium Ascorbate Crystalline Powder, 16 oz

How many mg are per 1 tsp?
according to the info it is 1112 per 1/4 tsp, is this right?

I dont mean to be rude, but did you read the thread to get an idea how this works to get your dose? There are a couple factors to consider.

1112 per 1/4 tsp so 4448 per tsp.
1/4= a fourth=.25

I understand that a lot of folks havent' bee nfollowing this thread from the beginning. It's sometimes hard to fish thru a hyndred pages to find the right dosing.
For every 100 gallons:

5 ppm ----- 1892 mg VC
10 ppm ---- 3785 mg VC
15 ppm ---- 5677 mg VC
20 ppm ---- 7570 mg VC
25 ppm ---- 9462 mg VC
30 ppm ---- 11355 mg VC

Be sure your pH is around 8.2 & your alk is around 9-10, before you start. Keep an eye on both (I test weekly, now that I notice no changes).

I'm planning on going with just the 5 ppm for awhile.. I don't have any issues with my zoas.. just slow growth... and I don't have a skimmer on this tank.. just a fuge with a ton of chaeto and a xenia forest...

if the 5 ppm doesn't do the trick then I will boost it up a bit later on...

Is everyone dosing twice a day? Or just once?

Puffy, maybe we need a summery so that people can get an idea of how to start. People need to make a decision on how much of a concentration is needed based on their situation before figuring out the dose. I dose just to get better color and growth but others dose for other reasons such as disease and other health issues.

People need summaries every page apparently because they refuse to look back a page or two for info.

True, but this thread is getting kind of long. It can be intimidating for someone looking for info. This looks like a job for Sellout :)

My understanding was that 5 ppm was for color/growth and 50 ppm (gradually working up to that amount) was for therapeutic benefits...
Since I don't run a skimmer on this tank I want to be able to monitor any side effects which is another reason I have opted for the lower dosage...

Am I wrong in my assumptions?

No, you are right :)
It looks like you know how to start. Its all about the correct concentration, the correct type of vitamin, and the dose. You should be fine.
