Treating with Vitamin C

I think if you are dosing for theraputic reasons you'll need to remove all GFO or GAC while dosing as Pufferpunk stated that the VitC will be removed more quickly because of those being there.

I don't know if using GFO or GAC matters if you are dosing prophylatically.

I added Purigen back into my sump after removnig it for a month. I keep a very mixed reef & was getting nervous about not having it in there. I dose the C in a section of the sump after where I place the Purigen. If you are having severe issues with your zoas, I'd remove it for now until things get better. This is another reason I dose so much.

I know nothing about reactors, as I dose everything by hand.

I have run vitamin c for months along with Purigen, activated carbon reactor and phosban reactor without a problem. I really doubt any of those things remove vitamin c. They are not designed to as far as I know. The vitamin isnt a toxin or phosphate.

Ok, day 3, dosing 15ppm and this is how they look now. I'm crossign my fingers... To Frag or NOT to frag that's the question.

Oh the ones on the bottom have always done well. It's the top that I'm worried about as it's progressing. I don't really know how long it takes for zoos to recover, but 2 days ago, the top half was still opening and today more polyps are closed.
I'll be dosing 30ppm tonight and hopefully there will be some noticable change.

whelp ive made it through this thread and have some mixed emotions. For the most part people are seeing great results or no real results (negative or positive).. This could just be because they dont update.... meaning on the good side.. cause if it was a negative impact youd prally post...

I did read that several people are experiencing an increase in the ALK to a very high level. Depending on the Ca level possably near a precipitaion event.

Has it been concluded that its the buffered VC is causeing it? Those that have had alk issues were you supplimenting for ALK and dosig VC? Did you basically figure what the bump in alk is due to VC and reduce the ALK sup your using?

Basically just looking for info on the increased alk issues.

My ALK issue appears to be from the buffer I used and my very low cal levels (280). I did a large water change yesterday and added a calcium supplement and started dripping kalk water to bring up my calcium and hopefull lower my alk. My Alk was 15 before my water change and went down to 14 after. I will check it again tonight and make up more kalk water. I couldnt find any turbo calcium so I'm using a sea chem product to raise calcium and supplement my mag.

so you do not contribute the increase in alk to the dosing of VC? The increase is from the dosing of the buffer you used?

yeah randys 2 part. i as well use that. i guess what im getting at is since you started VC..do you dose for alk?

I really wish I had time to read all this, but I just can't. I was wondering if someone could give me a brief overview. I'm planning on ordering 3 bottles http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails.aspx?c=1&pid=-7152293197697039798
(how long should that last me?) tank is about 150 gallons total volume. I don't dose anything, I only have a kalkwasser topoff system. some zoas aren't looking to happy right now, so I decided to give this a try. has anyone had any ill effects towards any other corals? I've got a mixed reef pack slammed. don't want anything to die because of this. also have anemone's on the same system...they won't be harmed correct? and if someone knows which page the dosing chart is on, could you either link it, or copy/paste it again please.

thanks in advance.

other question would be...has anyone designed an auto dosing system for this? when I was reading about the pellets i figured you could just put those in an auto feeder and be good for like 2 weeks. not too sure about the powder. any ideas?
