Treating with Vitamin C

microbacter 7 ..made by brightwells i think..it suppose to be a form of goood bacteria..i was see people dose mb7 with vodka..and since vit C and vodka are both carbon sources..would it work?

I really can't see why there would be an issue with those two. I would give vitamin-c a run for a while before trying it with m7 though, otherwise it will be difficult to tell if the m7 is doing anything or not.

MB7= Microbactor 7. It is a product made by Brightwell Aquatics that contains living beneficial bacteria. It has gotten great reviews by hobbiests that use it. A lot of people that use it also use Fuel by Brightwells at the same time. Fuel is a carbon source that feeds the bacteria found in MB7. The FUEL can be substituted with sugar, vodka, VC, or whatever carbon source you wish. I used to dose sugar with VC and had great results. I am now using MB7 and VC with really good results. Nutrients are down to nothing and water quality is up. They can be used at the same time. A lot of people are using MB7 along with vodka with great results and vodka is less expensive then FUEL.

Before someone chimes in, I'll say this again: It is possible to keep a healthy, mature reef tank without dosing anything but it's easier to add a couple drops of something everyday (for me) and feed the heck out of my fish and corals without worrying about upsetting the balance of my tanks.

do you know if this will be a problem for cheato? i have heard many stories of cheato dying due to carbon sources

The goal of vitamin C is to eliminate excess nutrients, if successful chaeto shouldn't be able to grow, but there is no reason for it anyways if you have no excess nutrients.

I've been dosing VC now for about 5 months. I have seen great improvement in the health of my zoas/palys, and great PE in my sps.

My question is I am going to start running a reactor with GFO and carbon, so do I need to cut back on the amount I am dosing? Should I stop dosing now that my zoas are doing great?

I am currently dosing a little more than 5ppm twice a day.

can you start dosing VC early in a tanks life? Mine has only been up for about 3 months, so far everything is doing well, but i would like to see more growth and better colors if possible.

Also, what would be the effect of only dosing once a day vs twice a day?

for those of you who dose vitC, do you also run carbon? i am currently running purigen and chemipur in my 30....

I started using it on day one of my new tank without problems.

I dose after where my Purigen is. I thought Chemipure lowered pH? For maintenance, I only dose in the evening, after lights out.

Exactly :). I have not been able to keep chaeto for a couple years because of carbon dosing and dont miss it.

Many of us get it from fellow reefer's tanks but I'm sure most LFS sells it. Look in the selling forums here. You have to have a refugium set up for it. You really should start a separate thread on this, since VC negates the need for this.
