Treating with Vitamin C

I understand that is why you originally began dosing, but is there any evidence that dosing VC is doing anything more than a standard carbon? Couldn't all the purported health benefits merely be from the cleaner water caused by the carbon source?

Most of the health benefits are from decreases nutrients but I think the cleaner water does play a big part in the obvious health benefits.

brannock-16, Does it say how much VC is in a tsp? You need to know how much to measure out.

Rad167, VC starts to dissipate as soon as it hits water. It's completely gone within 8 hours, which is why I suggest dosing 2x/day. There it won't be viable in your top off water for very long.

Do you need to "cycle" the dosing of Vit C? I have been dosing 5ppm (I think) for a couple months now and everything has been great. For the past couple days half of my colonies are closed and half are open??????? Should I increase the dosage or stop and see what happens next? My total volume is 150g and I have been dosing 1/2 tsp 2x a day.

I've been dosing ~23ppm regularly (1tsp for 100g), for well over 3 years straight. I know when Jeff stopped dosing, his corals weren't flourishing as well as when he was dosing.

It says that 1/2 tsp is equivalent to 2.4 g. It also says that the amount per serving of vitamin c is 2 g (3.333% DV) and of sodium is 280 mg (12% DV).

I have been dosing 1/4 tsp for the last couple of days on my 120 G tank with 40 B sump with about 100 lbs live rock. Is this okay?

1/4 tsp of the product I use has 1112mg of VC in it. So yours is about the same content. If you aren't happy with the results after a week, dose at 1/2 tsp.

Yeah, some of your zoas look closed up. Others look as though they are stretching. How's your lighting? Is the only thing in your HOB filter the carbon? Be very careful about adding VC to your tank without a skimmer. Keep up on those water changes to remove the excess nutrient die-off. What kind of VC do you have & how much are you using?

I actually am running 36watts of T-5, 65 watts of PC and 24" sunbright led. And i just did a 20 gal water change and the tank is only temp till my 65 finishes its cycle. Im running 8-36watt T-5s, euro-reef skimmer, lil fishes geo reactor with bio pellets. But until its done ill do 10+ gallon water change every other week on the 25g nano. Also ive been neglecting this tank for quit sometime. but now im getting more frags in it im going to step up my maintenance.

Pufferpunk,
Being you used Vit C in your system.I think this might be a problem for me,but wanted to know your thoughts here.I run the Bio Pellets in my system. Now I'm thinking this Vit C being a source carbon, does it have any effect on the pellets.Being the pellets collect bacteria on the media? I'm thinking the Vit C could be eating up my bacteria, that I'm trying to collect.Have any input here?
Thanks
