ok, I should just stop adding anything for a few days to lower it right? and a cbb are harder to keep in captivity, expensive and are they even reef safe?

You could stop adding, or you could do a water change without any additions besides ALK buffer, b/c it is most likely really low.

Im pretty sure a copper band butterfly is reef safe. People use them in their reefs to get rid of Aptasia anenomies. But they might pick on some corals, like mushroom anenomies. Other people will have to comment on that. I would say they are medium hardiness, not all that difficult. Expense- in Buffalo they are like $40 or so.

ya about the same around here. maybe a bit more but anyhow I don't want one in a 20 gal tank. I want 2 fish and thats it just 2 black and white percula's

I think I would probably rate them somewhat more difficult than that....And though they may pick at other things the problem in general with them is if they will eat at all...

admittedly this is a real long shot....

but if anyone has my yellow sponge growing in their aquarium I'd be very interested in getting a frag.
I know that Playfair and Todd W. (Todd of "Todd's Torch" fame) were successfully growing this sponge in their aquarium. There may be others...

This is one of the irreplaceable critters I lost when I moved to the new house last year. I can't even find a picture of it now

Hi Gary,
I have a 7inch or so yellow tree sponge and have had it in my 90g back
in a cave for over three years. It grew a little but doesn't really grow much but stays about the same. After reading this thread I got up to may sure it was still there and it is. The yellow doesn't look as vivid as yours but it is yellow and in a very dim spot. I don't really feed it but I do use cyclopeze with my fish food mix.

Did your yellow sponge grow from liverock or did you purchase it separately?

The yellow sponge in my pic turns orange-ish wherever bright light hits it.

I bought it at the Fish Place in Buffalo along with an orange as a relative newcomer to reefing.. The orange melted away within sixmonths but the yellow has held it's own and even grown a little. I oringinally placed it in swimthrough cave so it's out of the light and gets pretty good flow. As corals have been added and grown, it is now all but hidden behind the first row. It is still doing ok even though I significantly enhanced skimming and added uv sterlization and refugia about 18mos ago.
