tree sponge

I just bought an orange and I want to know of any special things I need to do to keep it alive lol. my water conditions are stable and I have great luck with the rest of my corals.

My advice would be to keep it in a shady spot and feed the tank a lot. Most people don't have any luck with the tree sponges. Also, next time research before you buy.

well I did reasurch and I knew what I was getting but a lot of people still didn't have good luck. and I also read they like light not a shadey area?

Get some phyto/zoo plankton. It will need that to survive in your tank. I would suggest some DT's Live Marine Phytoplankton. People, including me have had great success in keeping non-photosynthetic sessile inverts with its regular usage. But i, myself, have not had a tree sponge.

Good luck, and i would research more like Flanders said.

I agree with Gary... NOONE I have heard of has kept these much past 6 months. What good did your research do if you got it anyways?

And yes, Gary, I still have your sponge frag :)

Glad to hear it, Dave.
You probably already guessed that I was going to add that
I'm convinced that feeding VibraGro (especially when powderized) improves certain sponge growth rates. Atlantic Orange/Red tree sponges don't live long in captivity, but they sure are nice looking.

well, I figuered that if it starts to die I can remove it from my tank but they are nice to look at and it was a steal lol. and I figured its worth a shot u know? and feeding phyotplancton, won't it create a tube worm growth in my tank? I have had that happen already lol. I have lots of little white dots on my glass.

I think that those "little white dots" are small Barnacles. I have had them all over. They don't harm anything, except your hands if you brush against them fast. I ripped up the top of hand good, when i got startled by a shrimp.

omg lol. I was told that they were tube worms. but they have been there for a long time now and never grew. I have them all over my rock and everything. and when I scrape the sides of my tank, they don't come off but I have never found them to be sharp.

"Little white dots" that are seen on aquarium glass and rocks are usually Serpulid polychaete (tube)worms.
They're especially obvious in newer systems.

BTW- I still do frags of my yellow sponge.

CBB=CopperBand Butterfly fish, i recently learned that myself.:D

You might want to lower that calcium, i'd bet that at that calcium level, you alk would be at about 1dKH. Thats not good...
