How well will a Tridacna maxima live under VHO lighting? 300 watts current. 220VHO & 80NO.

Possibly a Gold Maxima... A low light would be better though... (derasa, squamosa, hippo) What depth did you plan to keep it below the lights?

I plan on keeping it at either 9" or 15".

I think a gold maxima at either of those depths would be okay, if you want a blue/green max you would definately need to go for 9". :) What where you thinking about ordering? A derasa on the sandbed would be fine too and still very beautiful. I keep mine at a depth of 24 inches but under t-5's.

Not exactly sure what I want yet, just narrowing it down. My girlfriend really wants a blue maxima...so I'll have to break the news to her gently.

Is the white on that clam due to bleaching?

What white? If you mean on the shell that is new growth. If you are talking about the mantle of the clam that is just the color of the derasa, it's actually more cream than white.

Right on, just making sure. I dont feel like killing anything in my tank due to lack of light, you know?

I would try a gold at the 9" level. IMO, I wouldn't try a blue or green under that lighting. MAYBE if you were running a 440 or 660 bank of VHOs
