Trip to the Shedd - interested?

I can probably drive 55 with my eyes closed. I have been making this drive back home to my parents in Sandwich, IL for the past 19 years.

If you hit Rod's Reef in DeKalb on Saturday, I would recommend heading into Chicago on 88 and finding a hotel around Naperville or Downers Grove area. I know there are a number of hotels right off 88 and also some off of Ogden avenue. From here it is not a bad drive into Chicago on Sunday morning.

Also, staying downtown has many perks for a Saturday night. Check Hotels.com and see what kind of deals can be had for downtown Chicago.

There are really no hotels south on 55 until you get around Plainfield.

Just some ideas

I would be interested for sure. I have been there before and loved the whole weekend. The last time we went we took the train and I was impressed. It was fast, comfortable and easy. We also, being kinda cheap I guess, took our own food and drink on the train for dinner friday night. It took about 5 hours to get there. a 5 minute cab ride to the hotel and we walked everywhere else. I'd be up for it again. there would be two of us because Susan wouldn't let me go without her on this one. All dependent of course on when. We are pretty booked thru Thanksgiving already.

SO many date dependent people!

In view of that, let's start talking about when we want to do this.

I know Lonnie said that spring is good for him .... how about everyone else? Is that too far in the future or would that be acceptable to everyone?

I already have a date!? :) Sometime in February could work. Seems like nothing ever goes on in Jan and Feb. Only downside to that is it's really COLD there then.

Might not be a bad idea to go then. I would think that it may be less busy at that time of year.

The cold wouldn't bother me too much and it sure would make for something to do whan there's normally nothing.

Anyone NOT like the idea?

I must agree with Lonnie. Spring would work for us, and their would be 3 of us. Spring break should work for you too eh Chelsy??

OK ... so now "spring break" is looking like the best time for those with young ones.

For those of you who know when that would be ....please enlighten those of us who don't.

Will that work for everyone else?

I have been told that spring break will be somewhere around the middle of March so that is the timeframe that we are now looking at.

Mizzou's spring break goes from March 23rd when I get out of class till April 1st (Sunday night). I am completely free anytime between those two dates :)

My husband is a teacher in Francis Howell, and his spring break is March 12-16 - we could definitely go during that time. Any time that doesn't work with his school breaks will be iffy for us.

OK ... we now have 3 different times for spring break. Nice!

We have one that goes fron 3-12 to 3-16 another that goes from 3-23 - 4-1 and another that runs from 3-17 to 3-25.

Kind of looks like the best weekend would be Saturday, March 17 and Sunday March 18 so far.

Anyone have any other spring break dates that conflict with these or does the proposed weekend of March 17 and 18 work for everyone?
