Tropic Marine BIO-ACTIF Salt?

Well so far so good. When I got the a bucket of this salt I did a 30 gal water change but supplemented 1/2 with RC. 2 weeks later a did another with just TMP. My water was already clear but it's super clear now and I run carbon and use a filter sock. Always had good PE without it so I will have to do wc to post more results. Skimmate is darker though

Been using TM Bio-Actif for a couple of weeks (2 15% water changes) and haven't noticed a difference in terms of livestock, but did have a couple of patches of bryopsis disappear. My pH is running lower both night and day now, however (had been using Reef Crystals, ph 8.05 night w/ kalk dosing, 8.18 day), down to 7.98 night, 8.06 day. Quite a bit more skimmate production, could be the "Bio-Actif" organic part is fueling bacteria and acid production. Too early to see differences in the coral I suppose. Also, have continued dosing vinegar in the kalk, and vodka though I've cut my vodka dose in half. But quite a bit more skimmate than I saw with the vodka/vinegar dosing before trying the new salt. Also, UPS managed to break the bottom of the salt bucket during shipping, even though PA boxed it up. PA promptly sent another bucket, so kudos to them.

I Just ordered a 200G bucket yesterday. I have been using Tropic Marin (not the pro) and really like it. It mixes perfectly. The best salt I've tried thus far. So I can't wait to try this new product from TM! I'll post my observations after a few water changes

It is nice that the salt mixes up without any funky brown foam like Reef Crystals does (which also coats the mixing container with a brownish precipitate/crust). Though I don't think whatever caused the brown stuff with RC was a problem for the tank.

I guess I'm guilty of thinking that salt can be the magic bullet - at the very least, I want to make sure that I'm doing what I can to have my corals looking good and being healthy, even if it means spending $100 on a bucket of salt mix. Having said that, would this be the top choice over, say, the E.S.V. b-ionic salt mix that just came out?

My 200G bucket arrived a few days ago. Hope to do a water change on my 20L tomorrow!
i have had a 200gal bucket on order since the begining of april with aquarium specialties, they tell me its on a slow boat out in the ocean, funny how other companies have it

Sorry man. I ordered mine from Marine Depot, and had it in 4 days, and only $8.99 shipping. I did my water change 3 days ago. A 5 gallon change on about a 35G system with my fuge. I have noticed greater polyp extension just like others here! I'll be doing another water change on Wednesday 12 May.

Did Marine Depot run a special recently? It seems they're charging an extra $22 for shipping on the 200 gallon bucket now :(

S&H charges are separate from heavy freight charges. Meaning that you may pay $8.00 for shipping and the $22.00 for heavy items.

Ah - I think it may have been a mistake that was corrected. I had 2 or 3 in my cart (over $175 is free shipping) with only a small charge (like a buck) for insurance. When I finally went to check out, there were charges for heavy freight. I was wondering what happened - you got lucky :)

Has anyone test the po4 in the salt? The reason i ask is that it has reef activ in the salt. when i tested the reef activ alone , it had high po4 in it.
Tested a few packets of teh reef activ and they all had high po4.

Ok . Im about to start using tropic-marin salts in my biocube 8 . I dont have a skimmer but i am running a turf scrubber . I recently contacted tropic marin about bio-actif salt and received an answer very quickly . I am curious to hear other opinions on the subject . Is skimming necessary ? perhaps ill get a box of reef-actif and a box of pro reef and mix them in 1-3 ratio to see how it goes . One thing i love about 8 gallons .. I can get the best salt w/o spending a fortune . Does anyone here think a turf scrubber would remove the type of thing a skimmer would after adding bio-actif salt ?

The salt, as far as I can tell is very good stuff. Tropic Marin has always made really good products. I get mine from a guy in chicago, www.reefecosystems.com. His prices are way way lower than what you guys are saying. I know he buys this stuff pallets at a time and local guys clean him out when it comes in. I know he ships too. Really nice guy too, drop him a line, I think he gives even better pricing if you get a couple of buddies together and make a group buy type thing too.
