Being that it is winter time: what are my options for painting the stand. I don't need anything crazy like two part epoxy. I sanded the stand down completely I was thinking kilz original maybe killz2 because I have both. Then what to do for the outside and inside top coat. Something not too strong on the fumes but still durable any ideas

If you don't want crazy fumes you can use exterior latex but it probably won't pass the 5 year plan. Just depends on how long you plan on having the tank.

If you want long term without painting it again down the road while the tank is full either lacquer or even better is urethane but they are not low on fumes.

2 part epoxy is the cheapest easiest route for long term and brushable\ Rollable

Urethane and lacquer will give an awesome long lasting finish and look incredible with the right application

Over the weekend I got the tank out of storage. Mostly good news. The tank still holds water. The stand wasn't actually broke. The bottom fell out the bottom. With a little help to get the impeller spinning the return pump works, the skimmer pump works and one of the 2 hydor power heads work. The other one the magnet was cracked and rusted out basically disintegrated(sp?). I have one small bucket with 3 rocks in vinegar with the powerhead and the working heater since Saturday. Cleaned out the sump that was a pain with the miracle mud. Do you guys still use this stuff? Light worked dusk/dawn, daylights, moonlights. The stand I sanded down all the black paint. Put two coats killz2 sanded in between coats. I will paint the inside with some sherwin Williams ceiling paint and then I am doing a nice medium gray exterior paint and then polyacyrylic the entire stand. As far as the finish goes all I have to buy is the paint for the outside of the stand everything else I had on hand. Ok some not great news. One leg for lighting fixture broke. The drain bulk head cracked just the plastic piece and that circulation pump I mentioned earlier. The rock seems pretty decent about (80lbs I tried to weigh it)but still doing all the steps. Vinegar, powerspray, bleach,airdry,ro/di+prime then in tank. Still trying to figure which salt, and sand? And the mud. Should I save all the dead coral skeletons?

Ceiling paint is a questionable choice around water. I know you say your going to topcoat with polyacyrylic but all it takes is one chip and the paint is exposed.

Not sure how polyacyrylic will adhere to latex but it says it's OK over waterbased stain but latex paint seals the wood where stain doesn't.

Well just to update I did decide to take your advice so on inside 2 coats killz2 1 coat flat latex eminence from sherwin Williams then got the spray appliance paint and now no top coat there. Outside 2 coats killz2, 2 coats eminence and then got exterior in a medium grey color, followed by the top coat at least 3 coats
