I picked up this red some time back. Many of the heads were so far gone that they perished. I fragged the coral and have several small (5) colonies that are still viable and feeding. I hope to part them out after they really begin to bud out. Good luck on your search.

my reds are still living and growing new polyps. under my 10k xm's they haven't held the red color but morphed into a more pink color. They are certainly larger polyps than the yellows.

I don't think / know that they were dyed. After I fragged up the rock they have morphed into several different shades, albeit only 1 group of polyps have retained the blood red coloring.

Very nice looking at all the pics of tubastreas and dendro type corals.

About red sun corals.............I was under the impression that they were dyed. I searched throughout RC and all of the other major online forum sites and very very few people have a red sun coral and when they do, they show only 1 picture. Almost fishy to me.........if you have a rare coral why show only 1 picture? I would think many many pictures would be taken to show people.

Also red sun corals would be highly desirable because of the color so you would think a bunch of the online sites would have them or get them but nope. Think about some of these aussie acans, duncans, and dendros........they are highly desirable and every place online has them.......how come noone has red sun corals?

Unless I can find one myself or someone starts posting multiple pictures of red sun corals that they have and have kept for a while, I don't think they exist and must be dyed.

black isnt that rare. i can get you a 3-10 head piece for like 35 bucks
tell your lfs to get in "black octopuss coral" seems thats what a few wholesalers call it lol

Highly desirable does not mean vendors can easily get multiple colonies of them like with the Aussie corals.

Blacks aren't as common at the orange ones but I still have a frag of black, I paid about $30-40 for it. Pics are in old RC suncoral posts. It was harder for me to get a yellow rather then black.

atlantisaquarium.net usually has some different looking ones one kind of flow do these guys like? I am interested in setting up a ten gallon or so just for them could someone maybe tell me what i would need as far as flow light ( i know they are non-photosynthetic).

A 10 gal would be hard to maintain with the amount of feeding these thing require. The book says laminar flow. So I'd say just a good steady flow, but again I'd have to say Not in a 10.

Yea a ten would be a problem unless you have a major skimmer and filter and do partial water changes every week. Regular fluor. would be ok moderate flow would be fine.
