Hi all. I'm a noob with a question. I've got a Tunze 9004 skimmer in a 30 gallon nano tank. It's about 3 weeks old and has worked like a charm since I plugged it in (at least since I figured out what to do with the air valve.) Today I unplugged it to move it to a different corner on my tank. Set it up in the other spot, plug it back in, and nothing. I can't hear the motor running at all. The outlet is definitely still working, the unit just isn't doing anything. Is it likely I fried the motor when I unplugged/replugged? I've still got a week to return it but I'm wondering if there is something obvious I should try to fix it first. I did open it up and reconnect the air hose but that hasn't made any difference.

Very unlikely the motor is fried, the heart of this pump is a 6015 Nano Stream motor and is very proven and tested and in all the years of this motor, I can only think of 2 dead ones I have ever seen. My guess is that when it was off, some calcium deposits hardened and locked it up. I would remove the pump, remove the impeller and clean the pump, impeller and the cover on the pump that the air hose connects to, pay particular attention to the nipple for the air hose, it can jam up with salt creep.

Got it!

Got it!

Thanks for the advice. I took everything apart that I could find a way to take apart, cleaned every speck I could find out of it, got it back together and it's working fine again.

Another question - when I received the unit there was a small crack on the edge of the collection cup. It doesn't effect the operation but I should probably replace it. Can I order a replacement part?

You can but be sure it is a crack, they have two diagonal casting marks that in certain lighting conditions can look like cracks but they are just marks left by the front and back half of the mold where they meet.

It is part 9004.140 and can be ordered on Tunze.com, it is $17.17
