Tunze 9010 in sump skimmer stopped

I got the pump back today. I was just curious what was wrong with it and is anything I need to do before reinstalling it? Thank you for the very quick turnaround.

Just an update. The skimmer is running and it is producing foam, not really any skimmate yet. Seems to be getting quieter after a full day of running

One quick question should water be running over the top of the tube in the front? Mine isnt and when I think back I dont think it ever really did.

Thanks for the help and the great service.

Yes, if it is not coming out of that tube something is assembled wrong and you will not get good results as the water level is too low internally. The usual culprit if all three pieces for in sump use are installed (pipe, bottom plate and coupler) is that the bottom plate is not completely closed, if it is just open a couple mms water will drain out. It can also be on backwards, the bevelled edge should face forward.

beveled edge is facing forward on the bottom plate. I think maybe it might not have been pushed in all the way or maybe the pipe was pushed in too far. Last night I noticed that the water is coming out of the tube and also out of the back of the skimmer. This evening I started getting a kind of dirty water in the collection cup not any real skimmate yet.

If I am looking at the skimmer with the collection cup in I can see bubbles/foam coming up the center cylinder about the level of the 100 mark on the outside. If that makes any sense.

I can think of a couple technical causes and one aquarium related cause.

First, make sure the air is open at least 4 full turns.

Make sure the outlet nozzle of the skimmer pump was inserted into the clear jet pipe inside the skimmer body.

I just had a skimmer come back for review and based on the appearance and my results the problem was a lot of fine sediment that entered the skimmer, if the water is filled with sediment skimming will not be very efficient.

Sounds good I will check those things. Also one more quick question. How much is the cup to make the 9010 into a 9015? And is the cup the only difference between the two? Thanks.

The cup is the only difference, honestly I think the best upgrade you can do is the 9020.14 Foam Extractor, it is just slightly shorter than the 9015 cup, the 9015 cup to me is too dry, the extractor is just right in my opinion. With the bigger cup/extractor you just let more air flow in.

You would need to order from a dealer, the site is only for spare parts, it might be on there but I don't think it is. They run about $100, it is the same price as the bigger cup.
