Tunze 9010 problem...again.

I awoke this morning and checked on my skimmer to find that my skim cup has overflowed and was filled with clear water. Last night I checked and it was only filled up to 400 ml with dark skim-mate. I didn't touch anything on it and have no idea why it went crazy. Now, after dumping the water out of the cup, it no longer produces bubbles. I can hear the pump running, but no bubbles. The pumps sounds louder than usual and no water is coming out of the return. Everthing is hooked up correctly. No gap on bottom cover.

Robert,

Can you send me the skimmer? Something isn't right. The skimmer cup should not be able to overflow if it is assembled properly, with the lid secured, once the cup is full skimming stops. Does the issue coincide with using an additive or shutting off the skimmer?

Hi Roger.

I just wanted to give you a heads up and let you know that I mailed the 9010 this morning via priority mail. It should arrive early next week.

Thanks again.

Yes, it was a strange but simple problem. The upper bearing had been honed deeper, like sand got in it and the rotation ground the groove another half mm or so down. As a result the magnet rotor was very deep in the track and would stop and shutter and hang up. It drew 50W in this condition. I changed the upper bearing and it ran fine, drawing 27W. It shipped back today. I had never seen this before, but it wasn't anything major, a $1.50 part.

Thanks Roger.

If you recall, that was the replacement pump you had sent me. Was this pump used as I can't figure out how something could have gotten in the pump. The skimmer was sitting in the sump and there is nothing in the sump at all.

No it was a new pump, it is possible it was just a bad upper bearing, but I was also surprised the pump was made in the 3rd quarter 2008 so it was a fairly new pump.
