Tunze 9010 rating for 125 gallon SPS tank

Hi Roger:

Looking to get back into using a Tunze skimmer again. From the tunze brochure I quote below for calculating the load of a skimmer. I note most mfg tend to overrate their skimmers, but can I be rest assured the Tunze 9010 is sufficient for a 125 gallon SPS tank. The tunze rating is 60% of 264 US gallons for a well stocked SPS tank, So should the 9010 be sufficient for a 125 gallon SPS tank.

>>High sensitivity and high load
Hard coral aquariums with a high population of fish require an extremely high skimming capacity. The skimmer has to ensure the
degree of purity for the hard corals at an above-average high fish load. If the Comline DOC skimmer has to operate as a
“stand-alone” solution here, a high performance is required. This type of aquarium should be reduced by up to 60 per cent
in volume for the skimmer volume mentioned.>>

I read that as 40% of the 264 gallon rating for a heavily stocked (fish) SPS dominant tank, which would be ~105 gallons. The quote says "reduced by up to 60%".

Thanks Roger and Crumbletop, I mistyped. I meant 40%. Out of curiousity what would Tunze consider a "High population of fish in a 125 gallon. My setup would be two tangs, coral beauty, couple clownfish and a goby or two along with the usual invertebrae of snails and hermit crabs. Still ok for the 9010 to handle.

I think it would be OK and if you need more performance get the 9020.14 foam extractor as it allows you to crank up the airflow full blast and get a wetter skimmate than the 9015.

Thanks Roger. I also be using carbon and a wee bit of ozone, plus filter floss to remove larger detritus so that can only help as well.
