TUNZE Comline® Wavebox 6208 - Placement

Hi,

Just looking for some pre purchase advice if possible regarding placement of TUNZE Comline® Wavebox 6208.

I have a Eheim Incipira 300 Marine tank that is in the process of being set, dimensions are 100-L x 55-W x 65-H all in cm (56-H is the running water depth).

The weir is on the back wall of the tank, and starts 50cm in from the right hand panel, the weir dimensions are 26 x 13.5cm, which leave approximately 23 between it the left hand panel. Sides of the weir are solid, only the front has weir grate.

Was planning on running a 6055 in the tank also, tank will be stocked with LPS Corals.

Any assistance would be gratefully received.

Ideally the wavebox is aimed down the length of the tank, it could be placed forward of the overflow box and should work fine. As an alternative, you can aim it front to back and place it in a corner, the wave will be somewhat diagonal, high in one corner and low in the diagonal opposite, but it will work. You can control the wave height but ideally you would have room for at least a 1.5 cm wave which doesn't sound like an issue.

Ideally I would want to place it in the right hand corner facing the over flow, I guess this would not work?

Is it possible to get the same effect using 2 x 6055 nano stream pumps?

I don't think it will work, if it does it won't work to its optimum.

It is possible to generate a wave with 2 6055 as well but then you would want 3 6055's and this costs more and is less energy efficient. 2 would provide the wave and 1 would provide a directional flow. The wavebox uses a 6055 but adds the effect of displacement as the box empties and fills so the wave is equivalent to what 2-3 pumps would generate.

To jump in on this thread as I am considering ordering the 6208 for a 48"x24"x18"H tank. Will have a single corner overflow. So I am assuming it would be best to place the wave box on the side with the overflow shooting across the back of the tank to the side with out a overflow correct.
Would pretty much have to hang it on the overflow its self.

It would have to be aimed down the full length of the tank to be tuned properly, you would need to mount it on the side wall in front of the overflow, not on the overflow, basically you can place it any where that the length is 48" from the back of the wavebox to the otherside of the tank, it needs a clear shot. Alternatively you could aim it to the front from the back on the side which lacks the overflow, this is not ideal, it tends to be acceptable on smaller tanks but the wave will be more diagonal and not a clean neat see saw.

Well actually just ordered a new DSA NEO 105 with the over flow centered on the side of the tank plus had the overflow lower 1.5" so can have big a wave as I want. Now I can place the wave box on one side of the over flow and 2 Vortec MP10 on the other side. Going bare bottom so can have tons of flow.
