tunze DOC 9005 with in sump kit

I have pretty much settled on this unit. (For now). From what I have read, this set up is what I need. I need a short skimmer (sump/refugium under a cabinet) a product that is relatively plug and play (very mechanically challenged) a company with a good reputation and guarantee. The deciding factor is the height.
Now all I need to know is if they will be coming out with a "new and improved" model right after I purchase this one....
I guess what I am looking for is anectdotal testimony of those reefers who own this product.

The 9005 just had a minor upgrade, no major changes are anticipated anytime soon. The top of the skimmer and the air adjustment screw were changed about 2 months ago.

Are you sure the 9010 won't fit your application. By the time you add the sump kit to the 9005 you might as well have bought the 9010 that comes with all the needed fittings and have a better skimmer to boot.

I see what you are saying. Will have have enough room to remove the skimmer cup? The proclear I have now (stop that laughing, the lfs sold it to me when I was a newbie) is 17 inches high and it's a tight fit to remove that cup....

and if so, the gallons it can handle, it would be better to be able to take it along when I upgrade to a bigger tank.

I have a 9005 and have been very satisfied with it. I have been considering getting the sump kit. it's in my sump right now with the hanging kit but the water level is a bit above the optimum water level mark. Will the kit actually boost performance?

Very slightly, the boost comes from a 100% flow through, right now about 10-20% of the water is recirculated in the skimmer so the kit eliminates the recirculation.

You would need a bit over 20" to comfortably remove the cup.
Damn. the sump area is elevated due to an egg crate shelf. It's a Redmond Reef sump/refugium. The water comes down the back portion that is partitioned off down to about 3 inches above the bottom. this flows to the front portion and up and across a partition into a refugium section. The skimmer sits on the egg crate shelf unit. I think it is elevated because it would be too deep for a skimmer otherwise. Man I really wanted a tunze skimmer too.

20" is for the 9010, the 9005 would work in about 18", the 9205 and 9010 would fit for sure as they are very short but less powerful.

I only do repairs, we don't take returns on our end so this would be up to the vendor but most vendors only take returns of unopened and unused products.
