Hello, anyone have any ideas why my tunze will operate for 1-3 minutes and then just stops completly. I did clean the magnet couse one day it just stopped. It was covered in calcified algea but im pretty sure i got it all off. Now i plug it in and it only works for a few minutes if that. thanks!

How old is the pump? The usual cause is going to be that the magnet is stuck to the metal shaft by calcium deposits. It must be free to spin on the metal shaft which normally would not move.

hi roger, I bought the pump from some-one on reefcentral used and he said it was a 2 years old so about 2.5 years now. I did clean it very well, but maybe not good enough if im understanding you correctley. Are you saying that the metal shaft witch is attached to the propeller can come out of the magnet to be cleaned? I did not take that appart. I will give that a try tonight. Thanks!

Correct, the magnet spins on the shaft which does not move, you should be able to remove the magnet with propeller from the shaft. If they are fused by calcium, the pump will drag the shaft in the bushings but eventually it triggers a shut down from the overload.

Well got the shaft all cleaned up and loosened. It spins super easy now. I put the pump in and it worked great for an hour then shut down completly. Absolutly will not even start up at all anymore. Im thinking moter now. What do you think?

If you are sure the power supply works, then it is likely the motor, and a light on the power supply is not conclusive the power supply works so I would check it with another pump or a voltmeter.
