Tunze Outlet 1074/2 with Wavebox

I've studied the Tunze Wavebox video and I notice the tank is using a center mounted Tunze Outlet 1074/2 (overflow box).

As I want to have a Wavebox and add a sump (without drilling the tank) the Outlet 1074/2 seems the most "wavebox compatible".

Has anyone had any experience with this product? Does it restart every single time after the return pump is turned off and then back on?

I've researched the Tunze site they rate the 1074/2 up to 1200 l/hr but note it's happiest at 900-100 l/hr. Any comments of this?

On the whole this overflow looks really good... I wonder why it's not more popular.

I can't find it on the Tunze site but it is in their catalogue.

Here is a link to them on an oneline store...

Tunze makes 3 outlets. One that does not require a hole in the glass (like a usual overflow 1074/2)... One that requires a hole in the back wall (1076/2) and one that requires a hole in the glass bottom (1077).

I use it on my tank, I have only had a problem with it restarting once. In that case my osmolator reservoir was empty so it ran dry all weekend and the tube sucked in alot of bubbles from the outlet and that is what killed the siphon. I really like it, it is completely quiet and very easy to start the siphon. I think the low flow rate is what disuades most people, it also requires a bit of skill to install, it doesn't have any clamps, instead you use pieces of foam from a hardware store to shim it into place.

Thanks for all your help.

One final question on this... with the 1074/2, am I correct in thinking you adjust the water height in the tank by lowering or raising the body of the 1074/2 on the side of the tank?

I assume this is where the shims come into play.

As well by "foam" from the hardware store you mean styrofoam.... That is, put foam under the body to raise the water height and take foam out to lower it...

You can use styrofoam, the best is a coarse sponge foam like a filter foam or even upholstery foam. Yes, that is how you adjust for height and width.
