Tunze Streams In A 55g??

dvanacker

DID I SOUNDS SMRT??
After messing around with the maxijet mod I'm starting to get frustrated and think about going all out with tunze. My current tank is a 55g ('4 x '1 x 22") . I know I want to upgrade to a 120-180 gallon tank later on. I have found out that 6000's can easily be upgraded to 6100 (w/transformer) which is good.

But do you think that two 6000's (w/controller) is to big appearance wise for my tank. Excuse my ignorance but I've never seen one in real life. They would be in each back corner pointing to the front center.

They are big, I had one in my 75, now have 2 + a wavebox in my 180. I also started with a 6000 and bought a transformer to upgrade to a 6100. Then I went with 6200s.

i WOULD tunze's in a 55gal. i have TWO in my 58gal!! they would work out great. just need to direct them correctly. the 55gal has a foot more length my 58gal and i have two of them blowing around in there.

i've heard seios are terrible. stick w/ quality and get Tunze's. i fyou run them on a controller you will be fine w/ flow. as for hiding them...i put one behind my rock work and one in the top corner. you could do two in opposing corners pretty easily (especially if you ahve a center overflow)

sorry if the pic is big

hmm.....I have a yes.

I have one seio 820 in there already with a maximod. Im looking for something with more flow and a little more rebust. Plus I will probably go with tunzes eventually anyway when I get a bigger tank so my thought was ..why wait.

i've got a 6000 (was sold to me as a 6100 but i found out it wasn't) and this is what it looks like in a 36" long tank (26gallon long, truvu). ignore the ugliness of the tank...i'm currently upgrading to a 90g.

Don't knock them until you try them. For the most part they are great pumps. I have never had any issues with my pump though I know a couple people have had issues with them not restarting.

Everyone has a different definition of "big". I have two 6k's in my 65g and I'm really happy with them. IMO, the controller is the best part of all. So many flow modes to choose from. If you're pretty certain you'll be upgrading to 120-180 in the future, I say you have nothing to lose. Resell on these puppies are great too.

I concur, I have a 1500 and an 1100 in my 58 and never any troubles. Once the controller comes out I'll be able to pull my three MJ's that I keep on a wavemaker to break up flow.

chin and jcorso - what i mean is that they don't compare to Tunzes!! they don't put out as much flow, aren't controllable, aren't upgradable (w/ a few cheap parts), etc. NOTHING can compare to Tunzes IMO. Tunze has the market for the premo top end, need no other powerheads out there.

seios are probably ok if you want a mid-line product...but compared to the Tunzes...even on paper they don't compare. i haven't used them both so i can't say in water they don't compare...but on paper...forget about it

I agree with lunchbucket. I have experience with both products, and the tunze blows seio outta the water.

The seios would always bind up, and I would have to spin the prop to get them going every time they were turned off. As for a wavemaker, nothing comes close to the tunze wavemaker.

If you dont have the money, save up for the tunzes. You will thank yourself in the end.

Why skimp on such an important aspect to the tank?

Hope this helps.

I've had good luck with Seios and Tunzes, have run all of them in my 58.

Currently run a 6060 and a Turbelle electronic in my 58 ... eventually turning that turbelle into a 6000 stream. Positioned right, it can work - though that's not always easy to figure ... but I've got a couple bubbles, frogspawns, and the like in my 58 with a stream + turbelle.

I'll take your word for it that they don't compare and for the price difference they shouldn't. I took opposition to the fact that you said they are terrible, which they are not.

Precisely, they are a mid-level product. I personally would like to have bought the Tunze because of the reputation but I don't see them as necessary for our size tank and I don't intend to have a larger tank in the future.

I do like the wave options of the 7095 but I just don't see getting full use out of them in a three foot tank. I was actually thinking of buying a Tunze on a single controller but since it looks they are actually going to release the SEIO controller soon I'm waiting on that. From what I understand it will do close to the same thing as a 7091 but at a fixed rate. Again, a mid-level product adequate for my needs.

Anyway, back to the original question. I don't think they would be too big appearance wise for your tank. I think they will be a little more prominent since a 55 isn't as wide as a 58 or other 18" tank but you can aquascape that away like LB mentioned.

here's my opinion

here's my opinion

I have two seio 1100's in my 55, and quiet honestly their cheap, but they clog very very easily, they hardly run at optimum performance and cleaning them is a constant for me, and in my aquarium I dont have the arm room to unplug them that much, knocking over my new expensive frags isn't my goal.

I am at the point of buying a turbelle to eventually turn into a stream. The reason is the size isnt that big of difference on a 1100 to a 6060, but the performance of it is. All TUNZE products in my opinion are top notc. I just got a TUNZE 9015 and had a mid or cheap level Coral Life Skimmer, the performance is not comparable in my opinion. The Tunze is just a quality top end product. I mean its not a red dragon pump on a closed loop or a sequence and a BBking, etc... but bang for thr buck and lifetime of use. the Tunze stuff gets my vote. I may just get two 6060's and sell my seios' so you may see a post soon if you want to go Seio. Pm me for 2 1100's.

my $02

ok.......got more tunze votes and some more seio.

I was wondering if it is a bad time to buy a Tunze setup because the controllable DC prop powerhead idea seems so easy. Just look what they are doing with maxijets. I keep think someone is gonna come out with a controllable DC prop powerhead for alot less then TUNZE......I mean they are really over priced no??

Anyway here is my tank....I dont really want to change the aquascaping too much so I would have to squeeze them in there somewhere.
