Hello Roger.
I posted this to the DIY forum last week (I didn't realize there was a Tunze specific forum until you just mentioned it on my voice-mail). The note below describes my issue. Also, I 've discovered the "silencer" cup's bottom seal is torn and should also be replaced. I'm anxious to get this fixed as I just put in the live rock and everything's running exect the skimmer. Please let me know what you think.
Thanks,
-Rob
I am in the process of setting up an old 55gal and I'm trying to use most of my stuff that's been in storage (including 2 moves) for the past 8 years. The most expensive thing I have, a Tunze Skimmer (230/3), appears to be in decent shape, but the pump is frozen. The pump is a Turbelle 230.02. I have the instructions and I've taken it completely apart, cleaned every single component and discovered that the ceramic magnetic rotor has a thin crack along it's length. I'm not sure that's the issue, but it could be. I've reassembled it and restarted the pump while fully submersed and while I get a few moment of spin from the pump, it's fleeting and then freezes again.
I'm not sure if I should look at trying to replace this (probably impossible to find) part or if I should consider this pump fried and just try to order another one.
Any experience or ideas are greatly appreciated.
Regards,
