turbo snail hitchiker?

So i got a snail with another animal growing a shell and living on his shell.. all ive ever seen is some mucous or something coming out or some tentacles and it looks reddish. Doesn't seem to hurt anything, just noticed its grown a bit since i noticed the weird shell growth a while back. Any idea what it could be? Should i donate the snail to a huge puffer before it does damage?

Describe the animal growing on the snail better. Tubelike structure? Flat? How many tentacles?
If it's just two and there's mucus it's probably a vermetid snail.

Thanks gor the tip! After looking that up i think i might have one of those but thats not what is growing on my snail. The hitchhikers shell is relatively flat but it is looping around itself kind of coning up or something. While looking up vermatid info i found Pileolaria. I'm going to start looking at that now. Thanks again! Any other ideas are welcome while i keep searching for an id

Thanks! Chucks was where i initially thought it might be pileolaria but they didn't have any info about how big it wuz... turns out those are waaaaay to small to be wuts on my snail lol. The search coninues

if its on the snail.. I believe the id is in the 1st or 4th link I gave you..
my turbo had one of those on him once.. if I remember correctly.. some are "good" and others actually eat through the shell and feed on the snail til it dies :( hopefully you have one of the good ones!!!

Any way you can get a pic? That would help a lot!
I've had snails with little featherdusters, barnacles, vermetid snails, chitons, and even juvenile clams (they don't look like clams, reallly) on them. Could be most anything.
What color is it?

The bkramer, your 4th link takes me to a pic of algae and the 1st takes me to an entire page of pics, what are you saying it is?

hmmm.. after looking.. it seems they changed some of their pics up and removed some :( but what I was thinking of was in the 4th link...
let me see if I can find it somewhere else lol

heheheheh. I know there is a snail parasite that will hitch on them, just don't remember what it's called. I was worried I had one when I got the juvie clam ID'd.

I had some barnacles on some snail shells that I recently got in. Sounds like it MAY fit the OP's description.

Its much bigger than a pinhead so that can't be it cloak. Thanks tho! I took some pics on my phone, just don't know how to post them. I can email them if anyone wants to give me an email address

I'd use photobucket. Create an account and upload the pics there. Take the image url they provide and paste it here. Easy! :)

I'll try it depending how mobile friendly it is. Cancelled my internet a while ago and just use my phone. But some sites are more mobile friendly than others ive since learned :( Thanks!
