Two Mouthed Magnifica

Anyone else seen this before, ive had one for about a month


Anyone else ever have one.

its so wierd if i put mysis on one side the one mouth eats, if i put it on the other, the other mouth eats it.

I was hoping some other people had some info but here are pictures.

When H. magifica split, it just split. It does not form a new mouth then split. I am not sure what happen to your's. Keep us up update. Did it have two mouth when you first got it?
When mine split, I first see the rock though the mouth of my Magnifica, then it just pull appart. Formed an O, then a C then two C's as the anemone strech to the opposite side of the rock. The mouths then reformed and I have two anemones.

I got it like that from the store.


Its crazy cause they both feed. Ive had it for like two months.

Interesting, I've seen a BTA with two mouths before in a lfs, but that's the first mag I've seen.

Thats what ive said, someone told me that it means they are going split but after seeing them eat individually, im wondering.

That is not a normal step prior to splitting. I had multiple slitting of H. magnifica under my care. 4 splits with two different anemones. None form a second mouth prior to split.

Yeah, I also have had magnificas split, and they did the same as Orions, tear apart through the mouth, very similar to a BTA cloning. The BTA I've seen with two mouths at the lfs has been that way for a long time. Lots of anemones cousins, e.g. elegance coral, have multiple mouths that are functional, so maybe it's just a long lost trait that still occasionally occurs.

Maybe Shu tin will chime in but she told that she has seen this before and that it is the first steps of splitting but she said it more scientifically.

Hey Randy, did you check out Jay's aquatics in NH? i heard everyone is saying he brought in like 25-30 carpet anemones of various kinds. You dont see 25-30 carpets in one place everyday unless you know a dealer.

Hows this for a cool clown.

After talking to walt i decided i was gonna try and find a luecokranos and pair it with a small aquacultures orange skunk. They are unsperable except at nightwhen she sleeps in a cave.


As they said in Les Miserable "This is the master of the house" during the day.
