Two or three more fish pictures I liked

My old favorite, an 8" dussumieri tang...

Or if you like them tighter cropped...

And then a new tang I just received this morning, a convict tang...

And another relatively new fish to me, a queen angel :)

I like the detail on that cropped image of the dussimieri. Especially on the eyes. Too bad the whole body didn't make it in the capture.

Thanks for sharing Recty.

You don't always need the whole subject, I like the photograph just fine the way it is! :) The rest would have been out of the DOF anyhow.

Thanks guys. The queen angel (last picture) was with the 24-70, the other two were with the 100mm macro lens.

I wish the dussu had been looking at me with that eye. I've got some funny shots where the head is looking one way but the eye is swiveled around staring at me, it would have made the shot even better.

hahaha :D ahhh Titus.. you make me laugh. I hope I didn't come across as overly critical. Im not trying to take away from the image.

I like the crop you did on your avatar even more.

Nice pics!
You must have a lot of patience to wait for those shots!
Thanks ;) I've been in front of my tank with the camera for probably 2 hours today.

And I wasn't intentionally trying to contradict you. Sol' good! :)

But Recty, which lens did you use? And what was your shutter speed/aperture/ISO out of curiosity?

+1 for the tighter cropped dussu. I like the Queenie shot personally. The visual quality around the face of the convict is excellent. Go buddy!

The first time you asked what lens I used, I answered ;) But I'll do it again, heh... the dussu and convict tang shots were with the 100mm macro and the queen angel was with the 24-70.

I'm not sure on my shot settings, I forgot I turned off exif data when I was making my new avatar, I'll turn that back on.

Basically, I normally shoot at 1/250th, f/9 and ISO 100 when I'm using the on camera flash, so I bet that was my settings.

For the queen, I'm always at 1/160th, f/2.8 and then I vary my ISO as needed, for where she was in the water column and relative to the light, I'm guessing around ISO 800.

dude, your tank must be a battle zone at feeding time!
It's not too crazy. My brother is going to buy the new Rebel that takes HD video within a month or so, I'll be able to post up some good video of feeding time when he does that :)

Thanks. I'm always amazed how much detail that macro lens can pull out of the face of a fish. The textures it gets are just crazy, like on top of the dussumieri's mouth... to the naked eye, it just looks nice and smooth but it's quite wrinkled when you get a good picture of it.

Yes, the texture on top of the dussu's mouth is similar in lovely visual quality / nature to that of the cheeks of the convict.
