i have stopped using it. i could never get acros to grow and even the LPS corals have died in recent months. i don't know that it is the water but i don't know it isn't either.

i never got any positive feedback from people who have sps tanks and are using the water.

i have changed out about 50% as of today. the survivors may be looking better.

I was just wondering about the quality of the water for SPS corals. There were a couple of members that said they were switching over possible issues? Are there any updates on how your SPS are doing after using RO/DI water? I am planning on starting up a 20H nano reef and will be putting all types of corals in the tank. What are some of your experiences with corals and the NSW? I just don't want to mess up my tank, ya know?

I can not answer that B/c I only have softies...not much of a SPS fan here like the flow and movement of the softies.

if in doubt use your fave. salt mix one less possibility to rule out if you every do have any issues. that said gotta love the price of NSW

That said, my tank and its inhabitants seem to be doing well. Easy SPS pretty much thriving: three colors of digi, three colors of cap, two acros. Everything grown from frags.

I have had a bubble algae issue for a while, but that could just as likely be due to the fact that I have young twins and insufficient time to devote to my tank. That said, my tank and its inhabitants seem to be doing well. Easy SPS pretty much thriving: three colors of digi, three colors of cap, two acros. Everything grown from frags.

Maybe you should pick up a couple of emerald crabs?

Ok, I have a 20H that I am setting up soon. I have all the stuff that I need for it. I got some of the UCSB NSW today. I have 20lbs of sand as well. I want to know if I should put the water right into the tank with the sand and let it start to cycle? I will be ordering LR on Monday or Tuesday from Vivid Aquariums. Suggestions?

You can skip the cycle if your using that kind of water one thing check alk on the water that's one of the reasons we have troble keeping SPS

I have some LR I am getting tomorrow. I am wondering though, I just put the NSW from UCSB in my tank and there is a lot of little things floating around in the water. I think it might be dust that didn't wash out when I rinsed the tank, but I am not sure. Can anyone share some insight on this and what you do with the NSW? Do you just put it right in the tank?

It's probably dust it should be okay but if you want just put a filter sock on your sump

I do pour it through a fine net/sock. Sometimes I see little algae floaters straight from the hose.

Ok, checking in with the water situation. I have had my tank up and running for about two weeks. I got a small CUC in and things are going great... except for the dinoflagellates. I am pretty sure that they are dinos and not just diatoms. Could the water be the culprit here?

The water from UCSB is filtered to 20 microns and is pulled from 500 yds out. I avoid using it after heavy rains due to the slough runoff but have never had problems with it.

Its funny how many RC'ers I run into down there.

It is where many of the Aquatic Biologist go after all(like myself, class of 2000).
