Ultra Violet light

I was advised to run an UV light for C-horse tank. Well that I have. I have my ponies in a 55g and have an 8W bulb fired up. My question is - Should I be running this constantly or for specified periods of time? I'm sure it is consuming a good portion of the electricity. Hubby hasn't said much yet. Just told me no more dogs & cats. Now he just stands in the doorway to the fish room and looks around. So perhaps I will be lectured soon???? Any thoughts???

8 watts 24/7 7 days a week will not be noticeable on your electric bill. Leaving a room light on for a few hours could show up more.

Most night lights are either 4 watts or 7 watts so you are barely making a difference in the bill with an 8w UV filter running.

If you run 8 watts for 30 days it will use 5760 watts or 5.76 kwh. If your electricity cost per kilowatt hour is 10 cents it will cost you 57.6 cents per month.

Hope that helps.
