UPDATE of your onyx clowns. please specify age if know, where purchased. etc.

here is my Onyx from RBeuler.

notice the dorsal fin is all black now. it has developed alot of black since the last 6 months.

i bought a pair but only this one had black between 2-3 bar. other one did not. and i do not think it will ever.

so if your hunting for onyx, look for atleast some black between all bars.

My pair will be a year old in September and they were WC. I still cant get over how much the female grew, especially in a 12 gal tank...she would give a maroon a run for their money. She is easily over 3 inch.

I recieved a pair from LA last friday. The male was the sickest looking fish i ever saw and died about 5 hours after acclimation. I dont think it had eaten in weeks. The female looked only slightly better. She has ick and internal parasites. They should have never shipped these fish. It took her a while to eat but she is now doing much better in hypo. The thing is that her black only connects on one side. They gave me a full credit with no questions asked and i didnt have to return the male. Seems like they tried to pull one over on me. So i had another pair sent this week and i couldnt be happier. They are both very healthy, eating well and half the females dorsal is black.

OH, I didnt buy my online. I got them second hand from a LFS who got them from LA. I dont like buying online.

Thats the first female they sent. If she pulls through im going to get her a black ocellaris mate. Her other side does connect the way.

This one my friend bought at a lfs. It was the male from a pair they got in october. The female died at the lfs. So he bought the true perc to go with the new female onyx. She has grown, but is still small.

anyone with older onyx from live aquaria????????

I had a pair from Live Aquaria, but the male died exactly a month after having it in my tank. I will post pics later of the pair. The female is really healthy and I have had her for two months. I put the female back in QT after the male died and have been searching for another Onyx clown at LFS. About two weeks ago I found a mate and have him in QT also. I put him with the female a couple of days ago and they sort of hit it off. She ocassionally chases him around and hasn't let him sleep inside her pot yet.

very very nice, i like how the 3rd bar has a simliar pattern to the 2nd bar. most clowns have just a straight band, but your original pair has a triangluar shape.

The new onyx clown I found at a LFS has the straight bars.
