Well just got back from Snorkeling in the Keys.....had a great time....this was just a test run for the next time...(know where to go, and what to bring) well my 1st stop was Andrea suggestion.....Lets just call it Andrea's Cove....just south of Bahia Honda got there kind of early but nice sun was rising.....All I can say above here if you ever need snails or blue legs this is the place.....you can pick up a rock and have 50 snails....it was nice here...seen many fish feather dusters..lots of rock close to shore....wish I could have taking 100 lbs or so....But I know the rules.....well after a hour or two was getting hot....headed down to Little Duck Key another nice spot....seen allot of snails....But these are the ones that Rogger warned me about eating Zoos.....so left them alone........I would have to say if your not collecting the best route would be to head out to a state park and take a diving tour.....but all and all it turned out to be a great day in the keys....Thanks again Andrea....I see what you mean about don't forget to bring your Sun Block......

Awesome! I am planning to go next week. Can you give me directions to Andrea's Cove?

Was there any corals? Any pictures?

Thanks!

Brian, what kind of snails did you get?
The little black ones.?

Oh, ok, did you see the Nerites too? I alsways get a ton of those and other than some keep climbing out of the tank, they are great algae eaters. You didn't see any Astreas?

Remember that the daily limit is 20.

The checkered one are nerites. They are pretty good, but like Andrea said some of them like to climb out.

Snails

Snails

Ok these are the ones I seen.....Last time I was over Roggers house he said to stay away from these snails......

Of all of the coral predators this may perhaps be the most encountered by the reef aquarist. The Sundial snail (Heliacus Areola) has a very distinct pattern and is fairly easy to distinguish this species from other snails. The pattern almost resembles a checkerboard in some cases. At any rate these snails prey upon Zoanthus colonies and
often tuck themselves away tightly between polyps during the day. Like many of the predators the Heliacus Areola is also a nocturnal feeder and does tend to gorge itself on wiping out the entire colony, instead the consumption pace is a bit more steady. Gone unnoticed you may attribute the losses to natural causes. The snail makes a small hole at the base of the polyp and actually sucks out the contents. The remanding flesh of polyp typically decays and falls off shortly after. This tiny foe is not one pleasant addition if you prize your Zoanthus collection.
