Updated Photos of 2 Gallon Cube

Chad... Sorry I've stayed back on this thread. Popped in and gave you a little promo then forgot to revisit...

Simply awesome tank. I have an acrylic cube the same size that I had planned to do in a similar manner - just haven't gotten around to it.

One question that I didn't see mentioned in the thread... How long have you had flatworms?

Ron,
Congrats in the new tank, it should be really neat when you get it running. As far as what line to put the chaeto box on, I don't really think it matters. Whether the water is flowing upwards or downwards, it will be going travelling at the exact same speed either way. If I were you, I would just place it on whatever line is most conveniant or fits the best.
For substrate in this tank, I am using a small crushed coral but plan on going to sand when I switch tanks. The filter return doesn't stir up the substrate because it is aimed upwards at the surface of the water. I have a filter screen over my intake to stop subrtrate from gettting sucked down but it isn't even neccesary unless Ike has been digging around and kicking up the substrate. The flow in the tank doesn't disturb it on its own. Hope I was more clear. Cheers,
- Chad

James,
Nice to hear from you again. The acrylic cube should be sweet once you get it going.
As for the flatworms - how embarrasing  - I'm pretty sure that I have had them on my live rock as long as I have had it (almost 4 years). Only recently however did I learn that the they were actually the dreaded flatworms that everyone reffers to. They have never caused any problem in my tanks and have never reached plague porportions...
Even still, I plan on trying 'flatworm exit' or something once I work up the courage.
Cheers,

- Chad

Thanks Chad, I'll get the screen for the intake, maybe some bride veil material or something. As soon as the tank comes I'll start taking pics and planning the stand etc. I may add some airtube bulkheads so I can add top off automatically and maybe even do automatic water changes. I could also run some airline tubes too various places for target feeding without putting my hands in the water.

Ron,
That sounds good. Here is an example of what I use as an intake screen:

It threads directly into the bulkhead and has a large surface area so that it will continue to work even after a partial restriction.

19 pages later... here I am!

Thanks a lot. There goes an hour or so of my life (and I couldn't be happier!).

Absolutely astonishing tank. When I first looked in this thread I thought it was a tank of water, and quickly closed it. Then I came back... and noticed - hey! heaven behold it was a tank of water.

I've recently been working on a 180 gallon however this nano/micro reef makes me question why I don't go small.

I'm sure you've received your fair share of fan mail from this thread. It's well deserved. Quality of posts if unparalleled, as well as the never ending photo shoot.

I have a 10 gallon sitting in the other room, which... I almost want to put something in. I keep it sitting on the side, crisp, and clean to use as am emergency, or hospital tank. For safeties sake, I need to keep it there.

I wonder if I can order a perfect sphere made out of 1/8" glass. If so, it would make for a fun "hanging" tank. We need to take the whole blender tank to a new level.. perhaps a "cellphone tank"? Chad, I nominate you to be the one making it.

All that being said... I want one!

Yup 8x8x8 - and soon to be larger. I was hoping to track down a cell cast acrylic tank because I love to look of the rounded edges, but I can't find anything in the right dimensions. Anyone know where to look? I was thinking 10x10x10 or 12x12x12.

Mercer,
Thank you and I'm glad you stopped by. You've got some pretty sweet ideas and I would love to see a hanging nano tank. Here is a link to the craziest tank I have ever made:

It was more of a novelty than anything else and I took it down because the pump that ran its circulation was my auto topoff for this system.

perpetual,
Thanks for the links! I have already fired off emails to them. I love the look of that new CPR Six but I don't need the false wall and compartment in the back of it...
Cheers,

I recently got a quote from SoCal and I want to say it was like $160ish for a cast acrylic 12x12x12 cube. I think I heard that FirstClass is a little cheaper though.

I'm actually going to make my own glass tank, so I'm getting away from acrylic.

Later,
Eric

Chad, I get all my tanks from Paul at FCA. He's very good to deal with. The finish quality is excellent and for me it's cheaper for him to build them and ship from Ohio than it is for me to get them maed down the road! I sometimes wish we had the same customer service culture over here as in North America.

Say hi from me!

Oh, and I just found this today:

Too small for what you want but isn't it pretty!

Thanks Eric. And Ed, that is a sweet little cube!

Ok, I don't want anyone to panic, but I am going through a crisis right now. As I was looking for larger tanks, I came across the nanocube 12 and aquapod 12 and started to think that each of them would make a great tank for a mantis. I can't believe how much this little guy has grown on me! I am actually considering selling my current tank and modded cannister filter and putting the money into new digs for Ike !?! I will let you know how the internal struggle turns out :p

- Chad

The one that I have is a g.smithii and he is almost full size; however, he should probably have more room to roam than he currently has...

- Chad

oh man, i bet Ike would love some new digs........ but not sure if its worth selling the most unique nano tank ever...... good luck with that internal battle, i wouldnt want to have to do that one!!! amazing tank though, wish i had the money to make one just like it right now

So how big is full grown now? My mantis is only about an inch and a half long but he won't get much bigger.
