Urbanek's 250

About how much flow were you getting and how much are you getting now? What were you using to get the flow before and what did you change to get more flow?

Thanks for all the beautiful pictures.

When I started the tank, I had a closed loop in place and 2 MP40s on the same wall as my returns. I was attempting to run the tank without any pumps on the far end so that I could keep it nice and viewable. The closed loop was being driven by a Reeflo Dart, its since been replaced by a Vectra L1. I ended up adding an MP60 on the viewable end which runs at 60%. This seems to do the trick.

August 13th, 2016 - Weekly Photo Update

I wanted to get my weekly update posted. Thanks in advanced for your views and comments.

I recently had the MP60 off the end of the tank and decided to snap a couple photos. Here is what the reef looks like from the end of the peninsula.

Last weekend, I finished a rescape of the middle of the tank. Here is what the middle of the tank looks like now.

My latest addition - Can't believe I never had one of these before

Bio Reef - Green Goblin

Reef Raft - The Phoung

Unknown Tort - Love the detail in the skin of this coral

Daisy Cutter Zoas

You sir have one of the most beautiful tanks I have seen here on RC. If my tank ever looks 1/2 as good as yours I will b happy. Not only is your coral beautiful but you also did an outstanding job on your stand. I have admired your tank for a while but don't ever post but I couldn't just keep looking. Congrats on a wonderful job.

reefanatik - Thank you so much. I appreciate that you took the time to leave a comment after all this time. Best of luck in your reef pursuit.

August 20th, 2016 - Weekly Photo Update

Time for my weekly photo update of the reef. The series of shots below are taken of the hallway side of the peninsula starting from the left and working right. The 3rd image is a compilation of the 3, if you look closely you can see the corals that overlap the photos

Here are a couple growth progression shots. The first set is my Pro Corals Rainbow, the second set is my GOW Stag

Here are a couple more images taken this week.

Sunburst Anthias

This image is of the left side of the tank from the hallway side. This is also my favorite section of the tank. The Hawkins above the table is growing beautifully over the table. The table is providing just enough shade to allow the frog spawn under the coral to thrive. What is not pictured is the large open arch under the table that allows for a great swimming lane.

Looking great Brad thanks for having me over again. Always a pleasure to hang out and talk salt.

Eddie,
It was my pleasure. Thanks for making the trip over. I know from your place to mine is quite the drive. Hopefully the extra coral you took home made the drive worth it.

Awesome photography. The tank is really coming along. The growth patterns on some of the tabling acros looks amazing.

August 21st, 2016 - Video Update

I thought I'd mess around with a little video tonight. I'm not real happy with the white balance from shot to shot. Something to work on I guess. At any rate, here's a little video of my reef. Thanks for looking.

Matt - Thanks for the view and comment. I see in your signature that you are between tanks. That's a lonely place man! Hopefully you have some good plans and timing for the next round.

August 27th, 2016 - Weekly Photo Update

It's been a week since I've posted so its time for another weekly photo upload. If you missed the photo I posted a few days ago, please have a look at that. That was my first attempt at video through the DSLR. I have a lot to learn with the video but it gives you a better sense of the tank.

August FTS - I find it hard to take a photo that shows the cabinetry and the tank in decent light. This was the result of several attempts.

Middle section of the tank, taken from the Living Room

These first 3 photos are all of my ORA Hawkins Echinata. This is one of my all time favorites. I liked how this series of shots shows the macro and wide views of how the coral looks in my tank.

Strawberry Shortcake

I don't keep many LPS, only 3 acans in the tank but this one is by far my favorite.

This is a coral given to me by one of our local reefers. He didn't have a name on the coral so for now I'm calling it "The Porter", named after the guy that gave it to me.

Pearl Berry - Under Actinics

Every time I view your tank and pictures I'm in awe. So awesome and I'm so jealous! What a beautiful reef. [emoji1303]

Urbaneks, you probably answered these question already, but if you don't mind, do you feed your corals and if so, do you broadcast or target feed and how frequently? And, what do you feed them? And again if you don't mind, where do you purchase most of your corals from? Thank you.

Been a few since I checked in. Beautiful shots as always.
I enjoyed the video as it gives a much better full perspective of the reef and all of the open space. So much openness, even with so many mature colonies. Just beautiful!
Impressive growth as well on the progression shots.
It's been quite some time since you detailed your husbandry practices: water change frequency, additives (if any) foods added..
When you have a minute, I'd love to get a refresher and hear if anything has changed, lately.

Wow from the stand to the tank to its inhabitants. Beautiful tank

locito - Thanks for taking the time to view and comment on the reef. It's much appreciated.

Blink2824 - No need to be jealous, I'm sure your reef will surpass in a shot while. Thanks though for the wonderful comments.

Rebekwl - Thanks so much. I do have some presence on the other forum, glad you found me in both places.

vitodog - most of my corals have been purchased from local reefers or local stores. I've only ordered from online vendors a couple times or when they've been in my area for reef shows. I do not feed my corals. I just feed the fish and they take care of the corals.

reefmutt - Thanks for the kind words. Husbandry can be found in detail over on aquaticlog.com, you can look me up there as urbaneks. I have my full maintenance routine available. Here is a basic run down.

- I do weekly water changes of about 10-15%.
- I run a strong skimmer (BK Supermarin 200).
- I dose a bacteria supplement daily through my doser.
- I run GFO in a reactor when my phosphates get a bit high.
- I run ROX carbon in a reactor when water clarity is off.
- I clean the glass every other day
- I feed the fish 2x per day, sometimes 3x on the weekend.
- For dosing, I dose 2 part with Mag through my doser.
- I dose Acro Power through my doser
- I dose Fauna Marin Color elements through my doser.
