Hello all,

What is your opinion/experience on purchasing complete systems from Other RC members leaving the hobby?

Anybody have any experience buying complete set-ups before?
Most of the complete systems I find are several hours away.

How did you handle transporting livestock?

Any thread links or advice would be appreciated.

Thank You

I bought my 180 and my 90 from syracuse reefers.

The livestock and water were transported in my 300 gal sump and the sand and rock were transported in the 300 gal.

When I did the 90 I put the in a separate container which covered the rock, sand went into a rubbermaid container I picked up at Wal-mart.

It was a bit of work but well worth it. I couldnt cover all the tubs I had in the back of the truck so the saltwater sprayed all over the truck and anyone that got close.

I saw the one you are talking about (220 gal)?!?

Sounds like a GREAT price...but man o man that is going to be a lot of work to get that home. Honestly, you may want to rent a box truck to do that job. All rock and livestock would have to be put into tubs and secured for the ride...some way of heating it would be good too. Maybe let him sell the livestock (and get rid of the sand) and you can just use the rock, tank, stand and the rest of the equipment.

Let me know how you make out on that one :)

I bought my 75 from a local reefer. I way over paid for it, but we all make our newbie mistakes.. I bought it in JC an I live in Endicott. The whole setup was transported in my 2 door Hyunadi Tiburon, My Wrangler and the tank and stand went in a small suv. We must have packed 50 gallons of water in the Hyundai... It was pretty funny. It was a bit over a year ago so it was the dead of winter (about 10 degrees out). The whole thing was in a 3rd floor apartment!! We moved like 75lbs of LR, a Hippo Tang, Yellow Tang, Flame Angel, 2 yellow tail Damsels, Cleaner Shrimp, Carpet Anemone and various corals. We didn't have a single loss!! We made a few mistakes.. I reused the sand, which I shouldn't have. I wish I didn't cause I wouldn't have hauled 1 million pounds of sand down 3 floors!! It was a pretty fun time all around.

Steve, if you get it and need someone to ride out with you and help you load and unload when you get back - let me know!

I like road trips.
