Using glue in your reef

Has anyone used glue to secure plugs, rocks, or anything inside your aquarium?

I used some super glue in the past to attach small Zoas grown on small pieces of rock to the LR on my display. Usually I will take out the rocks from my tank and glue them outside but I was always worried of keeping coral outside for too long.

I saw a video on BRSTV showing you how to use a method to glue rocks and plugs inside your aquarium and I have to say, that's the hardest thing ever. Unless you've tried it already with something that won't die and have been successful, don't try it with any coral.
I tried it and almost killed a bouquet of Zoas that I have. The glue went all over the place and dried solid within 10 sec, spread all over my fingers, the polips and worst of all, I couldn't get it to stay on my rock securely. I had to use tweaks weds to remove the glue from the polips and I was to save all but 1. Thank God. If anyone has a better idea on how to stick frags to rocks let me know. Ionia there is the clay but I don't like how it looks

I use super glue gel all the time, never had an issue. If you don't use the gel kind, it makes a mess as you say.

Simply place some gel on the frag plug. dip in the tank to form a skin on the super glue, then place where you want it and twist to break the skin. Works everytime for me.

+1

I use whatever brand of superglue gel I can find, and I'm beginning to think I should just buy stock in JB Waterweld and offer to take my dividend payments in sticks of the stuff

I've been using gorilla glue gel and JB water weld for years. I like to use a combo of both together sometimes too. Glue on frag plug covered with epoxy, then glue around epoxy before stuffing into place.

I've tried the "reef" glues and epoxies and noted no improvement worth the extra expense. White water weld turns coralline covered in no time until plug becomes encrusted

Is epoxy similar or better than super glue

I use epoxy and then use super glue to attach it to the frag and then I use super glue (gel) to attach the epoxy to the rock in the tank. I have found that epoxy, by itself, does not adequately hold to the rock. The combination works well for me.

Yea in my case I was using super glue but I found that it's the best choice to take the rocks out of the water to glue my plugs on there.

I really can't understand why people are buying "name brand" - that is with a marine title which infers it is designed for aquariums when all it is is "Cyanoacrylate" SUPER GLUE at a much higher price.

So many buy sodium bicarbonate (baking soda folks) fancied up to appear made just rour tanks.

Sorry for the rant. Heck, I did it to when I kept buying "reef buffer" because I thought I could control PH.
