Vacumming crushed coral substrate.

Is it ok to vacum crushed coral substrate?

I did it once because the substrate had planty of very tiny particles that would float whenever I scrubbed the windows close to the bottom and moved the substrate with the scrubber. So I vacumed it once, and I noticed many very thin, less than half inch long, red-black-red worms. Are these beneficial?

Yup, FW/BW puffers need 50% weekly water changes & I have 280g worth of those kinds of tanks. Some of my more messy, larger puffers & heavily stocked tanks get 80% weekly partials, especially my discus.

dont worry about the worms. you can vacuum the CC. i used to use one of the aquarium vacuums typically for fresh water. i t worked well. or i would blast with a baster to get detritus up in water column and then do my water change

Ok, thanks, just woried about any possible beneficial worms i might be vacuuming out. I guess it is ok now. Now that i think about it, I cant vacuum the whole surface anyway because of live rock so the worms will eventually migrate anyway.

Thanks.

you will be fine. keeping the detritus out of the CC is much more important than losing a few critters. im sure there are a lot more than you can see too
