Vectra elevated motor temperature.....

I woke up this morning to 4 email alerts saying one of my vectras was running at elevated motor temps and that the speed was reduced. What could potentially cause the temps to rise? I'm out of town traveling so I can't physically inspect the pump.

I'm still getting the alerts for 3 nights in a row all right around the same time. The interesting thing is at night I turn my vectras down to 30% power to allow the mp40's to run full blast in nutrient export mode. Since ETM hadn't responded here I sent them a direct email this morning. ESL say the pump is healthy when I checked this morning. I may need to stay up late tonight to check it when I get the alert.

Could you please private message me your ESL email address so we can take a look at your profile to get a better understanding of the situation.

I saw this and was wondering if they are related?

Hey thats me! Im stumped as well. I bought 4 mp40 qds and just installed 2 of them. Im not breaking the seals on the other two until this issue is addressed. I am having my doubts on these. I turned them down to 85% to prevent overheating. I should not have to though. I will have to see if ETM can help me figure this out.
As far as the vectra goes i was thinking about one of these in the near future but not until these kind of issues are solved.

Has either one of you tested the temp with something other than going through your apex?

I don't use an apex. ETM is going to look at my pics and see what's going on. I didn't get any internal temp alerts last night.

Hey Steve, did you ever get an answer to this? I got his message last night on my system...

Unfortunately no. ETM ended up replacing both of mine back in January I think and the problem still existed. I continued to get the temp warnings so I lowered the power and continued to get warning as low as at 85% power. I had been following up with ETM because was told that their engineers were working on this and that they would get back to me. I have since changed the setting to reef crest and increased the speed on my 4 mp40qd's. I am very disappointed with how I cant run them in a constant mode at 100%. I set the tank up with closed loops because my wife didn't want to see any equipment in the tank....she said I could build as big of a tank as I wanted as long as there was no equipment in the tank. I achieved that with the closed loop and had amazing flow with the previous pumps I was using but I wanted to try something new to be able to control the flow and create periods when the flow is lower than others. I guess sometimes you really need to follow the "if its not broke don't fix it" rule.

At this point, I would not recommend this pump to anyone using it in an external application.

Oh wow. Mine is In sump and in use roughly 3-4 months. ETM replied to me and said he logged into my account and it shows "healthy" and just suggest I do a cleaning every 3-4 month.. Hope this works...

mine says healthy too after the software would reduce the speed to lower the temperature. If you are getting temp issues using the pump internally, I would tell them to log back in and see the history of your pump.

I followed up with ETM today to see if they figured out anything with my report of the temp issues. I was very disappointed with their response. They said that they were able to replicate the issue with the two pumps I sent back and that there haven't been any other complaints about temp issues. They asked for pictures again of how I have them plumbed into my system. Already sent them pictures back in January.

So they have no idea why the temp issue?

I cleaned both my L1 and M1 and both were not "dirty" at all. Not much slime or buildup. This is strange...

they have no idea and sounds like they arent interested in figuring it out either. I would imagine the majority of the reefers using the pump are using it as an internal pump. Very disappointing. I sent them more pictures tonight and hope I get a response from someone more senior tomorrow.

Yes i believe too that most are using it internally like myself but I got this "error" and nothing else has been changed

I was looking at my graph for the whole month and everything was smooth across and then BAM it dropped to 108 watt instead of the normal 127 it's been at.

Yeh lmk what they say... I'll email the tech guy I've been talking to and see what he says and report back
