Vectra elevated motor temperature.....

This is what he said... I'm guessing the pumps aren't running hot but a glitch in the software makes it "think" that it is...

ETM just responded to the several emails I sent them over the weekend and are offering to replace my pumps which leads me to believe that they have not found the bug or a fix for the issue.

My question is,,,,, is there anything really wrong with the pumps?

You're getting high temp warnings, but is the pump running too hot?

What is too hot?

What is normal?

Great questions Martin. I don't want to keep on replacing them I'd there's nothing wrong.

I understand exactly what you are saying.
In my own situation when I replaced the pump I caused a bulkhead to leak that I could not reach. I ended up cutting a hole in a wall to get to the leaking fittings.
So yes, I agree completely that replacing them under a warranty like this , isn't the answer.

ETM can be lacking when it comes to explanations for issues.

my drains for my closed loop are on the bottom panel of the tank. Each one is a 2" drain so every time I am under their messing around with the pump I get so nervous about something happening to the bulkheads. 360g's will drain real fast if something were to happen one of them. I spent an arm and a leg on Heyward Sch80 fittings for the entire tank with hopes I wouldnt have any issues and so far I havent any leaks from the bulkheads.

My patience with ETM is growing thin....a year ago I had no ETM products. Now I have two vectra's, 4 mp40qd's, 2 xr30 g3 pro's and 2 xr15's. As great as their customer service is, eventually they need to come up with a better answer or I will need to make some changes.

Well woke up to this noise from one of my vectras. Leaving town tomorrow and don't think I'll have time to clean it not that will help. This is same noise my last ones made before they got replaced and cleaning them made no difference.

My problem with my 1-1/2" bulkhead on the suction side was a result of not doing enough to support the piping. I should have braced and supported the pipe immediately after it comes out of the tank. If I had there would have been no movement at the bulkhead.
I also have multiple Radions and and a MP40QD.
I am totally happy with them and wouldn't consider dumping them just because the Vectras didn't work out. So far my M1 is working perfectly.
I did have the problem with the L1, but got a replacement with no hassle, other than changing it out.

I just saw the video you posted and that really does suck

Yikes Steve! Sorry to hear they aren't working out for you as external CL pumps. The one I have in my sump has not had any issues. I guess I'm glad I sprang for the RD3s for my CL. So far so good with those.

I hear you!! I waited for the 10% off sales then bought 3. 2 for the CL and one for the return. I can hardly feel the pain anymore!

Mine started doing that 2 months ago. in fact it will make that noise and push no water until I powercycle it a few times. This totally scares me in the case I have a power outage and it doesn't finally kick in. I have a M1 and bought it in Aug/Sept. It was part of the first shipment.

replacement arrived on Monday. haven't had time to swap them out yet. I don't expect it to be any different as they still haven't come up with a fix for it yet. They replaced this pump because of the noise it started making.

This is unlike Ecotech to have these quality control issues.

I have had two MP60's for at least 4 years and they have been flawless. They don't owe me a dollar.

I was ready to upgrade my return pump to an L1 until I read this thread.

I hope they figure this out soon, I would like to buy my L1 sometime in 2016 if possible.

Additional thoughts:

Not as a large priority, but please allow connectivity to the Neptune WXM. I understand that you are trying to push Reef Link sales, however would you rather forfeit a $99 sale or a $450 sale?

You absolutely deserve to be profitable, we in fact want you to be so you are around many more years innovating products.

However please take into consideration if people can not confidently control their return pumps out of convienence through their Neptune they may consider not buying your pump.

$99 is a nothing compared to what loyal Ecotech customer spend, but please consider taking a small loss to keep us happy and buying even more product due to ultimate compatability through Neptune.

Good luck and keep up the good work.

Standing by on my L1 purchase.

(I have spent an estimated $5,000 in EcotechMarine products. I will continue to buy their products. It would just be nice to own their Vectra pump.)

Same problem here and started at about the same time.

I've had the L1 for only about 4 months now
Plumbed in as an external CSL with two 2" drains feeding it from the lower section of the tank
Runs in reefcrest mode most of the day and have to keep it below 50% at night
Tank temp normally 78-79
Ph a bit on the high side at 8.3
Calc and alk the usual 450 & 9ish (no participit issues)

When I first got the pump I noticed a stray voltage problem. It would mess with my Salinity probe even though mounted externally. I reported that to support at the time and the best solution was to get a grounding probe. So I did and problem was masked.

A couple months ago I started getting the overheated emails and then the ticking like in the video. I took everything apart and cleaned it, but there really wasn't much buildup at that time. Put it all back together and things ran ok for a few weeks.

Now, I swear it's running at half speed most of the time and I'm getting the emails again. The pump is warm to the touch and when I set it to 100% one night it actually overheated to the point it tripped the breaker on the whole circuit.

I never post things like this and love the concept of this pump but at this point it's too risky to keep.

I think this is just isolated to the L1 when used externally. Unfortunately we were never able to resolve my issue with my L1's on my closed loops but because of ETM's amazing customer service, we were able to come up with a positive solution. If you are going to use it internally you will not have any issues. I know several people running M1's and L1's internally with no issues at all.

so i just got another notice this past weekend of high temp.... i emailed them and finally going to get another shipped out to me... they said they worked on it on "their end" so that i wont get the message again but thats just whack.
