Vertex Pro Bio Pellets

I'm going into week four with the starting amount of 250ml. I just added the other 250ml. this morning. I'm pretty happy so far. The water is crystal clear and most of the algae is dying off.

To answer the question of a lower PH, you will see it drop if you don't place the outlet near your skimmer. Even though mine is placed near the skimmer, my PH is still running lower than before.

what is the mb7 that people are dosing? who makes it and where to get it?

what is the proper method to use it with the pellets?

Brightwell Aquatics makes it under microbacter 7 (MB7). It is not known if the bacteria packaged within this container have the ability to breakdown these types of polymers. So as for the advantage of using them, it is not known.

ok, so I've noticed that my PH is staying chronically lower these days. I added the other 250ml. of pellets yesterday and the PH hasn't gotten any higher than 7.88 so far today. I just calibrated the probe this morning. Anyone else having this issue?

Another good thread of solid carbon sources!!! I don´t know yet if i will use one of these in my next project...but these threads are very helpfull!!!

Hi Michael...

Are you monitoring your ORP???

Hails from Brazil

Howdy Brazil!!

No I haven't yet. I will be getting a probe later this month.

Toadally,

Thanks for the numbers!

You're welcome!

BTW, the PH rose to 8.03 today. I did place the outlet closer to the inlet of the skimmer. I had cut back on water changes to three gallons a week, but I think I'll step it up to my usual gallon a day. My cleaner shrimp needs a little help. He has algae growing on his whiskers! lol

Id like to start using the pellets. But... My skimmer is fed directly from my tank overflow, Then into my sump then back to tank. Problem is that i cant put the output from the reactor to my skimmr input. Anyone have a solution? What happens if i just run the reactor in my sump and let it go right to my dt?

Could you possibly run the output of the reaxtor to the overflow box of the tank which would then send it directly to the skimmer?

... just did it

... just did it

Joined the pioneers group of Vertex users last Saturday.
Used about 250 ml in a ViaAqua 20/20 reactor fed directly from sump return. Pellets are tumbling gently. Started with undetectable PO4 and about 1 ppm NO3 (Elos tests for both). No changes so far on pH or ORP. Skimmer seems to slow down a bit and the foam is more dense (so it looks to me).
I will keep posting development. I truly hope 0 ppm NO3.:fun4:

Tank: 60g cube with 29g sump; app. 75g of water.

cheers,
Marian

Hope it does well for you!

So you can connect the output to the input of the skimmer? Or just put the output hose from the reactor near the intake pump of the skimmer?

Anyone use a TLF phosban reactor to run these pellets? If so, did you use the stock filter pads, or should I add some sort of mesh barrier instead?

I'm using the BRS reactor which is basically the same. I started off using the pads but found out quickly that they clog. I would remove them and just use some mesh screen.

I'm placing an order on the vertex reactor with the BP. I wanted to know though can you connect the output to the input of the skimmer? Or just put the output hose from the reactor near the intake pump of the skimmer?
